Sentence of the Day- Muppet Color Theory

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, May 14, 2014 0 comments
There's a song in The Muppets movie where Kermit reflecting on the gang's past adventures and the good times that they shared. The song is called, "Pictures in my head." It's a slow song and Kermit is definitely feeling a little sad and down when he sings it.

Of course, Lil' Miss knows every word to the song- by heart. Of course, we have it playing in the car- all the time. Well, the other day, it happened to come on as I started the car. The lyric being sung was Kermit singing, "....that's why my green is feeling grey...." Immediately, Katy piped up from the back seat and said, "Green doesn't make grey! You have to mix black and white to make grey. That's the way it works."

Ha!

I'm not sure if I should be proud of the fact that Lil' Miss knows her color theory.... Or, shake my head at the fact that once again, real life applications are somehow pointed back to the Muppets. Again. Ted, I'm looking at you.....! ;-P

The Muppet Effect

Posted by Heather at Thursday, April 17, 2014 0 comments
Katy and I were recently jamming out to tunes on the radio when the 80's classic, "We Built This City" started playing. Immediately, Katy exclaimed, "The Muppets!" ("We Built This City" was featured when the whole Muppet gang is cleaning up the old studio in "The Muppets Movie"). She then proceeds to sing right along (knowing more words than I do, to the song). Like her father, pop culture references somehow always relate  back to the Muppets (and not the ACTUAL, true point of reference).

So her Daddy's daughter.... (and fellow Muppet lover, too!)!!

Lost in Translation

Posted by Heather at Sunday, March 30, 2014 0 comments
The newest Muppet movie, Muppets Most Wanted, came out, last week. Of course, we saw it opening weekend!

Katy has been slightly *obsessed* with singing and listening to all of the songs from the movie. One of the songs sung in the movie is, "Working In A Coal Mine."

Yesterday, we caught her to singing and dancing along to the YouTube videos, at the top of her lungs, "Working in the COLD MUD, Goin' down, down, down... Whoop! About to slip down..." She couldn't be convinced that the lyrics were "Coal Mine" and not "Cold Mud."

Another funny incident of late; Katy has a stuffed animal that plays lullabies when you press it's belly. His name is, "Gumble." Anyway, one of the songs that he sings is, "Pachelbel's Canon in D." Otherwise known as, the "Wedding Song." As we were listening to this song, Katy asked me, "Mommy, why did you have 'greensmaids' at your wedding?" Confused, I asked her to clarify. She responded, "You know- when you got married to Daddy- there were fancy girls standing next to you in green dresses- Greensmaids."

Ooooh! "Greensmaids," "Bridesmaids," Same difference!

The Chicken Dance

Posted by Heather at Friday, January 25, 2013 0 comments
This afternoon, I was in the kitchen getting lunch together when Katy comes running in. She was dancing and bobbing and flapping her arms.

I asked her what she was doing and she replied, "I'm dancing. I'm doing the Camilla."

Confused, I questioned,"The Camilla?"

Katy matter- of- factly said, "Dancing. You know- Gonzo' s (from the Muppets) chicken (Camilla)."

Oh! That dance- the CHICKEN Dance!

Ted, I blame you. 100%! ;- P

Sentence of the Day- Morning Show Love

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, August 01, 2012 0 comments
We love listening to the local KLove Christian radio station and it's really the only station that we listen to while we are in the car. Katy can even sing along to some of the songs and she requests the station by name.

Today, after hearing the morning show DJs names being announced ("Craig, Amy and Kankelfritz"), Katy said out loud,

"That too hard. Let's just call him Kermit."

Muppet Mania!!

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, March 21, 2012 0 comments

Kermie and the Gang are ready to watch "The Muppets!"
(Yes, that is not one but TWO dressed up Kermits- in Muppet-wear, of course- and a Fozzie Bear you see in the picture!)

"Hi-ho there! Kermit and Katy, here!"
There are Muppet fans and then there is Ted. He is in a league all his own. What he calls a "passionate interest," others (aka psychologists, doctors, experts, etc.) would label as an obsession, mania, fixation (you get the picture ;-P). That being said, when the new movie, The Muppets were released on DVD, yesterday, guess who was bouncing off the walls with excitement?!?

After a wild goose chase to track down the special Wocka, Wocka Value Pack (using a coupon and getting a good deal, of course!), we made a special family movie night of it, last night. This was the first time Katy had seen any Muppet movie from start to finish and Walter- er, I mean Ted- was excited to share it with her. She's seen Fraggles and Muppet shows and movie clips, but never a full-length feature film. Katy, like her father, was enthralled with the new movie! She sat through most of the movie without a fuss and she was singing and dancing her way through the film.

She may not look like Ted, but she is most certainly, without a doubt, her Daddy's daughter with her "passionate interest" in all things Muppet!!

"The Rainbow Connection..."

Posted by Heather at Thursday, September 22, 2011 0 comments
I captured this full, stunning rainbow (the picture doesn't do it justice!), yesterday after a day of rain and gloom. Beautiful!
Written by Paul Williams and used by Kermit the Frog, of The Muppets, Jim Henson Productions
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell,
we know that it's probably magic....

Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.
La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa"

"Follow that Bird!" (Big Bird, that is!)

Posted by Heather at Saturday, June 04, 2011 0 comments
We have a bin of toys in the car that entertain you when we go out. This evening, when we were driving home from dinner out, I handed you your Big Bird train, Katy. As soon as I handed it to you, you said, "Big Bir!" Does our daughter know the Muppets, or what?!

On the subject of Muppet identification, Daddy was reading the book "I Am Kermit" to you this afternoon. When he asked you to point to Kermit, you knew exactly which character was Kermit and pointed directly at him.

Also on the subject of Kermit, you've taken to saying, "Hi Ho!" every morning when you first wake up. So, when you are ready to wake up in the morning (at a chipper six/six-thirty in the morning), we usually hear, "Hi Ho!" or "Hi Ho, Dada!" over the monitor.

I totally blame Daddy for this love of all things Muppets!

Sesame Street line-up

Kisses for Elmo!

Kisses for Cookie Monster!
Recently our friends, the Hitchcocks, gave you a bunch of Sesame Street stuffed animals that their own children had outgrown. Ever since, at least one of them has been a constant companion to you, Katy. Of course, Daddy doesn't mind (and encourages!) your love of Sesame Street and all things Muppets!

Silly Daddy

Posted by Heather at Sunday, August 08, 2010 0 comments
To date, Katy, your favorite toy is Daddy. You may have lots of books, play things, activity centers, exersaucers, etc., but Daddy can always get you to laugh. It doesn't matter if he's singing silly (Muppet) songs to you or coming toward you saying "Watermelon" in a funny voice, Daddy makes you laugh and giggle!

You seem to really like when Daddy sings Muppet songs to you. Such as, Ernie's, 'I dance myself to sleep,' Cookie Monster's, 'C is for Cookie'. I kid you not- you really, really do like the Muppets. You may look like me, Baby Girl, but you are definitely your Daddy's Muppet Loving daughter!

Daddy's Little Fraggle

Posted by Heather at Monday, July 19, 2010 0 comments
Before you were born, Katy, Daddy used to sing the Fraggle Rock theme song to my belly (separate blog post). Every time he did this, you would kick along in rhythm. This made Daddy so proud to know that you liked the Fraggles even before you were born! Now, when you get fussy, we just have to sing the Fraggle Rock theme to you and you perk right up! You may look like me but your love of all things Muppets proves that there is a lot of Daddy in you, Katy!

"Me love COOKIE MONSTER!"

It should come to no surprise to anybody that we have a lot of Muppet-related books, toys, pictures, etc. We bought a Cookie Monster, a Big Bird and an Oscar the Grouch baby book for you, Katy. Guess which book is your favorite one to read (and to eat)? COOKIE MONSTER!!

Daddy Daughter Week (cont.)

Posted by Heather at Thursday, May 13, 2010 0 comments
Katy, you've been keeping your Daddy busy, during Daddy Daughter week! During this week of role reversal (Me going to work and Daddy staying home to take care of you), we've both gained some insight and understanding into what it takes to stay home with baby- aka, nothing gets done and sometimes you end up taking a shower at four thirty in the afternoon- and going to work- sometimes you come home to a fussy baby and only get to spend thirty minutes of cuddle time before bedtime.
This week you went to the grocery store, out for a walk and to the Depot Antique Mall with Daddy. Sometimes you napped, sometimes, you didn't. You always took the bottle and sometimes you were even a little hungry for more. Daddy even learned to wrap you up and wear you (allowing Daddy a few quiet moments to get some things done!). Together, you enjoyed a little XBox and a little Muppets. Daddy even got some pictures from this week!

"C" is for Cookie (Monster, that is!)

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, April 20, 2010 0 comments
"C" is for Cookie!

At the ripe old age of eight-almost nine- weeks old, Daddy and I have determined that you already have a favorite Muppet- Cookie Monster. While Daddy was really rooting for Kermit, he's happy that you picked a "classic" character. We came to the conclusion that you like Cookie Monster very scientifically (hee, hee!).

In our Art/Guest/Office room, there is a poster of Cookie Monster hanging over the bed. Every time you see this poster, you are fascinated with it. If we are holding you and turn in another direction, you always turn your head (now that you can actually TURN your head on your own) toward said poster. You have a Cookie Monster hairbrush (separate blog post) that you find very calming and relaxing when we brush your hair with it. But the deal breaker happened last night when Daddy and I were deciding what to have for dessert- cake or cookie? When we said the word, "Cookie," you smiled and loudly cooed in your adorable, baby way! Cookie Monster it is!

Pretty Muppet Babies Cake
Daddy's Boss, Howard Hitchcock

Daddy enjoying the cake!

Today, Daddy's company, Motorsports Authentics, hosted a shower in your honor. We were showered with presents from lots of Daddy's co-workers and boss. You received sheets (yay- since you don't yet have any and you are going to need some!), blankets, cute little outfits, teethers, diapers, a closet organizer and lots more. There was a beautiful two-tier cake decorated with Muppet Babies (I think the Muppet Babies were more for Daddy than for you, though ;-P).

Down in Fraggle Rock!

Posted by Heather at Saturday, January 02, 2010 0 comments

Daddy takes great pride in the fact that you can already recognize the tune of Fraggle Rock. We were laying in bed the other night and at all the right moments you would kick out your tiny little foot as if to dance along with the song!
