Trick-or-Treat!

"Trick-or-Treat!"

Daddy and Katy getting ready to hand greet the trick-or-treaters (Poor Spookley, our squirrel-eaten pumpkin in the background).

Tonight on Halloween, Katy, we dressed you up in your adorable pumpkin costume and sat you outside with us as we handed out candy to 700 trick-or-treaters! Kids started showing up around 5:30PM and we ran out of candy shortly before 8PM. You were very good throughout the time that you "helped" us hand out candy (You and I came inside around 7PM while Daddy continued to hand out candy). You loved watching all of the kids come by and you were fighting us when it came time to go inside. You were definitely our "cute factor" and many people made comments as such!
As a side note, technically, we handed out icy pops (CVS clearance- gotta hit the sales when you have THAT much candy to hand out!) and they were a BIG hit with the kiddies! We might just have to hand them out again, next year!

Reach for the Skies

Katy, you are getting taller. I know this because the "do not touch" shelf keeps needing to be moved up. Your head now hits the bottom side of the dining room table and computer desk. You can now reach your bottles in the bins in the kitchen. Also, in the baking nook, I've seen you eyeing some of the serving ware. I guess you really are in the 90th percentile for height. I wonder where all of that height came from...? Must be from the Tinkey side... ;-P

Concord Candy Crawl

"Ready to go Trick-or-Treating! Thanks for the bag, Nana and Grandpa Jones!"

Sign of the times- crazy dressed up guy handing out candy, talking on a cell phone.

Long line of Trick-or-Treaters

More crowds...
Another long line...

"Candy, Candy, Candy!!" (No, I didn't let Katy eat the Tootsie Roll!)

Katy, dressed up in your cute Pumpkin costume (sans hat since you promptly threw it to the ground when I tried to put it on you), carrying your cute tote from Nana and Grandpa Jones we joined the masses to participate in the Concord Candy Crawl, this afternoon. The Candy Crawl is where downtown businesses hand out candy to dressed up children as a safe alternative to nighttime Trick-or-Treating. As you can see from the pictures, A LOT of children and their parents showed up for the event (the stores were told to plan for at least 1,000 children). It was the perfect fall day for your first Trick-or-Treat, Katy!

Best buds with Cecilia Keys

Disco Baby

This is why I don't get anything accomplished during the day...

Helping Mommy pack up clothes for cousin Molly

Cookie Monster!

Today, you are 36 weeks old, Katy!

Your biggest milestone of the past week is that you cut your very first tooth (separate blog post)! Pretty soon, you'll be eating all table food with those little chompers. Selfishly, I'm sad to see this milestone past as it means our baby is growing up (too fast!)!!

We went to the doctor's office, this week, and we were told that you have thrush, a yeast infection and a staph infection (separate blog post). Since I am nursing you, the thrush was passed onto me- very, very painful!! We are now in the midst of clearing things up and cleaning/sterilizing everything so we don't have a repeat occurrence.

Your balance is improving, Katy. Not only are you climbing stairs (separate blog post), but you have learned to squat on your hindquarters instead of falling flat on your bottom. I've even caught you standing without holding onto anything for mere milliseconds. You'll be walking before we know it and then Daddy and I will REALLY be in trouble!!

You continue to babble, smile and interact with your environment. Each day, you get a better understanding of your world. Your crawling is much faster, now, we are constantly chasing after you. There is always something new to baby proof- so much so, that the one cashier from Babies R Us has started to recognize us when we walk in the door. This week, we locked the toilets. Next week, perhaps a baby play yard...

Breakthough

We have a tooth!! This evening when Daddy came home, you greeted him by promptly taking his finger and sticking it in your mouth. To which, Daddy suddenly felt something sharp on the bottom- your first tooth!

Thrush

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, October 26, 2010 0 comments
Today, I took you to the doctor's, Katy. We saw Dr. Houston. She was very nice and personable.

You've been experiencing some sort of diaper rash for the last week, or so, so I thought I'd get it looked at since the remedy the nurse told me over the phone only made the problem worse and more irritated. Turns out that you not only have a yeast infection, a staph infection and thrush (yeast infection in the mouth), but I, too, have a yeast infection on my breasts because you breastfeed and we pass it back and forth to one another. The doctor wrote out some prescriptions for both of us but from everything I've read, thrush can be stubborn and hard to get rid of (especially now, since you put EVERYHING in your mouth!). Looks like a sterilizer bath for all toys, bottles, EVERYTHING! And people thought I was crazy for having a bottle sterilizer....

On a different note, when they weighed you today, you weighed 19 lbs, 7 ozs.! Growing girl!

Uh-Oh, We're In Trouble...!

Katy is so proud of herself for climbing the stairs!

Daddy has Katy's back ;-P

As if we didn't already know it, we are officially in trouble- you have learned how to climb the stairs! I was taking laundry upstairs and you followed me to the stairs, Katy. We didn't think that you could manage the climb, but you proved us (very!) wrong when you proceeded to successful follow me up the stairs!

Toilet Paper Temptation

The toilet paper roll was oh, so tempting for a curious Katy....

Home Sweet Home

Katy, when we got home from our visit to FL, you were so excited to see your own toys, books and even your nursery (not that you like to sleep, though!)! Every time I pulled out a familiar toy or object, you would get the biggest grin and your face would just light up. You were so happy to be home. Funny, how at eight months old, you already have a memory of home and things familiar. Makes you wonder about other children who are permanently taken away from their homes...?

Fun time with friends and family in Winter Park, FL.

Sunshine-y Day (cont. Including 35th Week Birthday)

"Hmmm... what kind of trouble can I get into before we board the plane?!"

"Weee... I'm having so much fun with Grandma and Pop-Pop Tinkey!"

(Secretly, I think you liked this one better than your own because you could spin around in it easier)

We had a very nice, relaxing trip to Winter Park, this last week (October 11-18, 2010). Katy, you were very good for both the flight there and back (I admit, I was a little concerned after our last flight back from Philly).

Once word got around that you were in town, everybody wanted to come by and see you, Katy! We were visited by Sue Ru, Paige Mercer, Dana Irwin, Becky and Abby Pate, Barbara Sayles, Christa Petruzzi and The Meyers. Not to mention that we also saw various friends at Winter Park Presbyterian church picnic, Winter Park Towers and Lake George Elementary School. Katy, you are a mini celebrity (as long as it doesn't go to your head, baby!)! It was so good to catch up and see friends! I especially enjoyed getting to catch up with Becky while you pulled at Abby's hair (she wasn't so fond of that) and played.
Probably one of your favorite parts of the visit, Katy, was getting to see Grandma and Pop-Pop Tinkey's dog, Pebbles. You liked to crawl after Pebbles and you would often squeal to get his attention. The affection must be mutual because Pebbles even let you tug at his ears without so much as flinching.

Grandma was off work on Friday, so we spent a girls day at Waterford Lakes- shopping and enjoying the beautiful sunny weather. While we were out, you picked out a green dress that Grandma got you (you also got a pink dress). You were very good for the entire outing, falling asleep on the way home.

On Saturday, we were Methodist for the day and we attended the Methodist Church's 125th anniversary at Downtown Winter Park. There were free hot dogs, popcorn, music and activities for the kiddies. Later in the day, Pop-Pop babysat while Grandma and I went to the movies to see Julie Roberts in Eat Pray Love.

This past week, you improved your waving skills- managing to instinctively wave more to people and faces. I even caught you waving to Grandma and Pop-Pop's desktop picture of cousin Molly- too cute!!

Also, this past week you said, "Baaa" on a regular basis. While it doesn't really seem like you associate that sound with anything in particular, it is one of your happy sounds and you like to say it to books, food, people- whomever will listen to you.

You did a little cruising along the furniture, this week, Katy. You are getting more sure of yourself while standing. Sometimes, you even hold onto the piece of furniture steadying you with one hand only.

Grandma and Pop-Pop got to witness the fact that you do not seem to like bananas. Every time I tried to feed it to you, you would scrunch up your face and purse your lips. So, I guess in this case, the apple (or banana) does not fall far from the tree... hee, hee...

On the flip side, Katy, you LOVE, love, LOVE ice cream and rice- I take full responsibility for that! When we went to Jeremiah's on Saturday afternoon you were already smacking your lips for a taste of ice cream before Grandma got the spoon to your mouth! We had the pumpkin pie flavor- it was very yummy and tasted just like the real thing!

On Sunday, we went to Northland for Sunday service. We put you in the nursery (what a nice set-up they have!!) and you were very good, according to the nursery worker. The only comment the volunteer made was that you were very, very squirmy when changing your diaper.

Speaking of squirmy, you ARE VERY squirmy when changing your diaper. Currently, we have to change your diaper on the floor because you wiggle and move so much when we change your diaper. Sometimes, it feels like we do a lot of chasing that tushy while attempting to change your diaper or clothes.

Also on the topic of diapers, you figured out how to take off your diaper, this week. While I was taking a quick two-second shower and you were playing right outside of the bathroom, you managed to pull off your diaper. When I got out of the shower and looked at you in your birthday suit, you just looked up at me and smiled.

Grandma took over bathtime, each night that we were in Winter Park. You had lots of fun splashing and talking very loudly so that you could hear your echo in the bathroom.

After Northland, we went to Winter Park Presbyterian Church for their church picnic. You were very social with everybody, basking in the extra attention. While I ate lunch in peace, you were passed around to lots of willing arms. There was a little bounce house for little babies and we put you in it (separate blog post). You loved it- playing and exploring. You didn't want to get out!

On our way to the airport on Monday, we stopped by Grandma's school, Lake George elementary school. You got to met various teachers and students during our quick visit.
Of course, Grandma and Pop-Pop were sad to see us go, but at least we'll get to see Grandma next month when she drives to PA/NJ with us.

All in all, it was a good visit to FL. :-)

Bounce, Bounce, Bounce Around!

Katy in 'da (Bounce) House!

"What are you looking at?"

Playtime!

"Wonder what this ball tastes like?"

"This ball tastes like cherry!"
"I'm having so much fun in this Bounce House!"

Winter Park Presbyterian Church had a picnic, last Sunday. Along with the picnic, they had a baby-sized bounce house/ball pit. Since there were no other little babies in the house, we decided to put you in it and see how you liked it. Katy, YOU LOVED IT! You rolled around, played with the balls and protested when we pulled you out of the bounce house.

"Jeremiah('s) Was a Bullfrog...."

Jeremiah's Italian Ices
Katy's first bite of Jeremiah's

"Yummy! More Jeremiah's, please!"

There is this little ice cream stand called Jerimiah's Italian Ices in Winter Park, FL, that is something of an "institution" and we like to make a point to visit it every time we come home. Of course, I had to introduce you to the creamy goodness of Jeremiah's when we were in Winter Park. Katy, before we even gave you a taste, you were smacking your lips- a sure sign that something tasty is to come! You loved every bite of Pumpkin Pie Gelati that we fed you- YUM!
