Sponsored Post- Moms Meet- The Vets

Posted by Heather at Saturday, August 13, 2022 0 comments

This review is for all the pet parents out there!

Frappuccino, a 7lb toy poodle, has been a part of our family since Valentine's 2021. He has even managed to win me over- a strict, no-pets, allergy-prone and self-proclaimed neat freak- with his lovable and playful personality. This is no small feat!

He loves to play fetch, run around in the backyard and he has generally fun disposition. EXCEPT, he hates riding in the car... with a passion...!! He barks and whines and is generally nervous while riding in the car and it makes for some very, very, very long and stressful car rides for all involved. So, when the opportunity to review The Vets, a mobile vet care service that brings pet care home, through Moms Meet presented itself, I jumped at the opportunity!

Waiting patiently for The Vets!

First, a little information about The Vets;
• The Vets’ at-home pet care model saves a lot of time, reduces unnecessary stress for both the pet and pet parent, and allows the veterinarians and veterinary technicians to spend more quality time with clients. No more pet carriers, waiting rooms, or car-sick pets.
• Because happy, healthy pets come from happy, healthy vets, the mobile company hires the best veterinarians with years of experience and knowledge, and empowers them to bring unparalleled care straight to all their pets. Their veterinarians have over 10 years of experience on average.
• From initial booking to post appointment follow-up, The Vets’ booking agents, pet specialists, and city managers provide each client with a personalized medical experience.
• The Vets advise, guide, and support pet parents every step of the way whether in an emergency or in day-to-day care. They have a strong focus on client education, where they clearly explain what they do, how they do it, and why any given treatment is the best path forward for each pet.
• The Vets is revolutionizing a digital transformation within the veterinary industry by using technology to predict, pre-empt, and treat medical conditions.

Being spoiled with treats while Dr. Wolf and DVM Ty do their exam.

Our visit with Dr. Wolf and DVM Ty was pleasant, easy-going and low-key. Dr. Wolf got right down on the ground with Frappuccino to do the exam and she immediately won him over with treats and belly rubs! She did a general wellness exam- reviewing the basics, talking over some general wellness and preventative measures- and she was able to talk easily with both myself AND pup! She even talked about and coached us on some tips, tricks and possible Rx to help ease Frappuccino's car anxiety.

A fully equipped van!

Some personal observations about the actual The Vets visit;
-The Vets pull up in a well-marked, fully wrapped vehicle- there is no mistaking their purpose, company or intent. Both doctor and DVM were friendly and personable upon initial introduction to myself and pet.
-While Dr. Wolf and DVM Ty were running a touch behind for our appointment, they did appropriately reach out to notify us and their delay was no more than 10 mins.
- The Vets come INTO your house to do the actual exam. This surprised me as I had initially thought they would do the exam in the actual van- much like a mobile dog groomer does.
-The Vets can do pretty much anything your pet may need in the comfort of your home- ultrasounds, blood work, vaccines, microchipping, etc. The only thing they cannot do onsite is X-rays.

The one big negative to the otherwise positive experience with The Vets was scheduling. When The Vets initially contacted me to schedule the appointment, their availability was extremely limited time-wise and date-wise. Not at all convenient! There was a lot of back and forth before we finally found an appointment with minimal rearranging of schedules. Then, leading up to the appointment, I was contacted no less than five times via phone/text on top of several emails to confirm the appointment AND fill out the initial form (multiple times). While I appreciate the reminder, this felt excessive and tiresome.

Overall, the in-house visit was very pleasant and MUCH easier than driving to a traditional vet visit. Frappuccino responded well to Dr. Wolf and DVM Ty and we enjoyed skipping the long (and loud) car ride to the vet!

**Disclaimer-I received a complimentary wellness exam visit from the sponsor, Moms Meet and The Vets. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Moms Meet and/or The Vets.**

Sponsored Post by At Home and MomSelect- At Home Stores #MyReason #AtHomeStores

Mason Jar Gifts

Decorative Pillows

Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is in FULL swing!! As any busy family knows, holidays also mean gift giving- teacher gifts, after school care gifts, mail carrier gifts, neighbor gifts, hostess gifts.... Just a little something to show those special helpers in your (or your child's) life that you care and appreciate them! At Home Stores is a veritable treasure trove of all things holiday, home and organization! #MyReason #AtHomeStores

*********************************************************
I started out with a set of four Mason Jar Glasses (found in the glassware section of At Home Stores). I loved the fact that the Mason Jar Glasses included a chalkboard label on each glass- a great way to personalize your gift!

My first Mason Jar gift idea was to create "Southern Wine Glasses." I found some small glass candle stick holders (located in the candle section of At Home Stores). Then, I had my husband epoxy the candle stick holders to the bottom of two of the Mason Jar Glasses. After letting the glasses dry overnight, I filled them with jingle bells and personalized the labels. Pair the "Southern Wine Glasses" with a bottle of wine (or, beverage of your choice) and you've got a great hostess gift!

Start out with this....

...and end up with this...!

Southern Wine Glasses

Since I was only able to find two small glass candle stick holders and I had a set of four Mason Jar Glasses, I wanted to find a special way to gift the remaining two Mason Jar Glasses. While waiting in line to check out, I saw some bags of Lindor Chocolate Truffles. So, I grabbed a couple bags of truffles and filled the remaining two Mason Jar Glasses with Lindor Chocolate Truffles. I plan to personalize the labels and add a festive ribbon- tada!- a perfect gift to give a neighbor!

Neighbor Gift

*********************************************************
Now, because I love my sewing machine (as most regular readers of All Things Katy already know;-), I also wanted to find a quick and easy way to gift something (semi) sewn. I found this set of four burlap holiday place mats for $14.99 (located in the holiday linens aisle) and I knew they'd make cute decorative pillows.

Holiday Place mats

I already had some soft polyfil leftover from a previous project, but At Home Stores also sells bags of polyfil.

Once I got the place mats home, I flipped (one at a time) them over and located the seam at one of the bottom corners.

Then, I used my trusty seam ripper and ripped out a couple of inches of seam. By doing so, I created a empty pocket between the muslin backing and the burlap place mat front.

Next, I filled the place mat will polyfil. I filled the place mat pretty full, but still soft enough to get under my sewing machine presser foot and needle. After filling the place mat, I stitched the opening closed with my sewing machine.

Voila! (Almost) Instant, perfect decorative pillows out of burlap Holiday Place mats from At Home Stores! I loved these pillows so much that I just *might* keep them for myself! Heehee!

#MyReason to decorate and give to others this this holiday season? It's simple; I want to help create memories with my family and give those that have touched my life a tangible expression of my gratitude. Merry Christmas!

Sponsored Post by Moms Meet- Blake's All Natural Foods Pot Pies and a GIVEAWAY!

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, November 22, 2016 0 comments
**Disclaimer-I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms MeetSM program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms MeetsSM blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

I am pleased to review Blake's All Natural Foods Pot Pies here on All Things Katy! today.

Blake's All Natural

Blake's All Natural Foods started with one family and a farm back in Concord, NH 1929. It started with Grandma's Pot Pie recipe and the fine art of a hungry family gathering together around the dinner table. Blake's All Natural Foods believes that while the times have changed, the notion of family time and quality food has not. Blake's All Natural Foods offers a whole line of organic, natural entrees such as Turkey and Beef Pot Pie. You can read more about Blake's All Natural Foods here.

We decided to try Blake's All Natural Foods Pot Pies on a busy weekday. We just popped the meals out of the freezer and into the oven while we went about unpacking from the day and getting ready for the next. Forty minutes later, we were ready to sit down and dig in! We sampled the Chicken Pot Pie, Shepard's Pie and Macaroni and Cheese because that was what was available to us, at our local grocer. To find Blake's All Natural Foods near you, please refer to the store locator on the Blake's All Natural Foods website.

First off, prep was a breeze- literally, remove contents from box, remove plastic cover and bake. No mixing, transferring or mess. Love that! Hubs, Lil' Miss and I all took turns sampling the Blake's All Natural Foods Chicken Pot Pie, Shepard's Pie and Macaroni and Cheese so that we could give a full report.

The Chicken Pot Pie had a great, flaky crust. It cooked to the perfect golden brown and had the right amount of crunch when we dug in. Yet, it was soft enough for my (front) toothless six (almost seven!) year old daughter to eat comfortably. The veggies inside definitely tasted fresh and crisp- not over-cooked and mushy. The pot pie sauce was flavorful and light, but not overly salty or bland. My only complaint was that the Chicken Pot Pie lacked a lot of chicken chunks. Of the three pieces that we did get, the chicken was all white meat and not fatty.

The Macaroni and Cheese had a nice, crunchy crust that added to the overall dish. The Macaroni and Cheese was cheesy and creamy without being fake. The noodles were firm and not mushy at all.

The Shepard's Pie included ground beef, corn and a mashed potato crust. The ground beef tasted fresh and not mealy, fatty or oily. The corn was sweet with just the right amount of crisp 'pop!' The mashed potato topping was light and definitely tasted homemade!

After sampling (and finishing!) our meals, we concluded that we all enjoyed the pot pie the best! It had the best overall flavor, texture and contents. Our second favorite was the Macaroni and Cheese. Overall, we had a very favorable opinion of the Blake's All Natural Foods line of foods and we will definitely be scoping out more Blake's All Natural Foods products next time we go grocery shopping!

As a mom, I love that  Blake's All Natural Foods is made with all-natural, organic ingredients. I appreciate that  Blake's All Natural Foods products are free from artificial colors, preservatives and hormone-free. I enjoy the fact that the family behind  Blake's All Natural Foods believes in fade-from-scratch, small batch cooking- it is evident in their meals!

MegaFood

It's no secret that my six and a half year old Lil' Miss is something of a veg-a-phobe. She's a great, adventurous eater- she'll try just about anything off of our plates! However, she just prefers anything BUT leafy greens come dinner time (don't we all??!!)! While she's gotten better as she's gotten older (Or, perhaps she's just resigned to the fact that Mom is always going to require veggies?) I'm always looking for ways to get more real nutrients into her.

So, when Moms Meet asked me to review Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood, I was all in!

What is Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood? (from their promotional information) "Fresh from Farm to Powder™, MegaFood is as real as it gets. Since 1973, MegaFood has been committed to making products that use real food from family-owned farms to make a real difference, and has produced some of the most effective and award-winning supplements available today. A pioneer in the natural products industry, MegaFood was one of the first companies to make their FoodState® vitamin and minerals from scratch starting with farm fresh whole foods. MegaFood continues to innovate by manufacturing more than 36 individual FoodState Nutrients™ using their proprietary Slo-Food Process™, all in their own facility in New Hampshire."

I was provided with the following three samples:

  • Kids Daily Multi: Kids Daily Multi promotes well-being and healthy development, with organic turmeric, carrots, fresh fruits and 23 essential vitamins and minerals per serving.
  • Kids Daily Immune: Kids Daily Immune, featuring oranges from Uncle Matt’s Organic and elderberry and echinacea, promotes and helps to strengthen a healthy immune response year round. **I am all for something that will help support my elementary school aged daughter!**
  • Kids Daily B-Centered: Kids Daily B-Centered featuring Lundberg Family Farms organic brown rice, provides daily support for mental focus, cognitive function, and a sense of calmness.. Formulated with a full spectrum of FoodState® B Vitamins, this blend supports healthy mental and physical energy levels.

Kids Daily B-Centered™ Nutrient Booster Powder

First of all, and from a purely asthetic point of view, I love that the Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood come in real glass jars. The glass perfectly fits with the organic, reduce, reuse, recycle lifestyle. Each glass jar is contains proprietary powder and a small scoop.

As a mom, I love that Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood contains real ingredients; such as tumeric! You can watch them harvesting ingredients for Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood here. I love that there are no added sugers, sweeteners or preservatives in the Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood. So many of the main-stream children's (and adult!) multivitamins out there are full of added sugar! Plus, Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood is gentle on the stomach and easy to digest- even on little one's empty stomach. Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood is gluten free, vegetarian, pesticide free, soy free, dairy free, non-gmo and certified Kosher. Whew! That's a win for any diet!

Peanut Power Bites

For the sake of this blog post, we decided to make some Peanut Power Bites using Kids Daily B-Centered Nutrient Booster Powder. The recipe is found here.

Lil' Miss was my willing sous chef!

She helped me gather ingredients (chocolate chips are missing in the above picture).

We mixed.

We poured.

In the end, Lil' Miss couldn't wait to taste her Peanut Power Bites using Kids Daily B-Centered Nutrient Booster Powder creation! I'm happy to report that she LOVED them! They were sweet (honey) and easy to make and eat. There were no complaints- that's a #momwin in my book! The Peanut Power Bites using Kids Daily B-Centered Nutrient Booster Powder will definitely be put into our usual weekday breakfast rotation. We're always looking for quick, nutritious grab-and-go food for school days!

In conclusion, I love that  Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood includes good-for-you nutrients. It's easy to use and incorporate into everyday foods and drinks. With it's non-gmo ingredients and commitment to supporting other farmers and organic companies, I feel confidant about using  Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood and serving it to my family.  I believe Fresh from Farm to Powder Megafood is a great addition to my daughter's overall health.

Sponsored Post by Moms Meet- LightLife Smart Dogs

LightLife Smart Dogs

So, a couple of months ago Hubs got a less than favorable cholesterol screening. As a direct result of this, we've had to completely overhaul our eating habits and food purchases. Shortly after our family's lifestyle change, I was given the opportunity to try out LightLife Smart Dogs through Moms Meet- it couldn't have come at a better time! With a new grill and the summer months upon us, it's a great time to try out a new-to-us, healthier grilling option, such as LightLife Smart Dogs.

First off, LightLife Smart Dogs are marketed as, "Lightlife® Smart Dogs® offer up all the juicy flavor you love. Fire up the grill, top with your favorite condiments, and enjoy the ultimate summertime favorite."  LightLife Smart Dogs contain the following ingredients; "Water, soy protein isolate, soybean oil, evaporated cane syrup, pea protein isolate, tapioca starch, salt, potassium chloride, bakers yeast extract, carrageenan, dried garlic, natural flavor (from plant sources), natural smoke flavor, xanthan gum, fermented rice flour, guar gum, oleoresin paprika (color)." Each LightLife Smart Dogs  contains just 50 calories- that's not too bad compared to their meatier (and less healthy) counterpart!

Taste-wise, I'm not gonna lie.... LightLife Smart Dogs are a far cry from the real deal and our sample package of LightLife Smart Dogs sadly sat unfinished in our fridge for a long while. While LightLife Smart Dogs are a healthier grilling option, they are most certainly not the tastiest. *sigh* Personally, I found LightLife Smart Dogs to have a  kind of weird mouth texture and left a funny, fake after-taste. My carnivore six-year old was not a fan!

With all of that being said, I there are some things that I can appreciate about the LightLife company. LightLife includes non-GMO ingredients in their products (they've been doing this since before it was THE thing to do). Another thing that makes LightLife  admirable is the fact that they make giving back a priority, "Giving back to the community has been a priority since the very beginning. For over 35 years we have contributed 5% of our profits to organizations that support the earth on which we live and healthy lifestyles for people like you."

So, in conclusion, we probably won't be making LightLife a regular part of our diet because we just didn't like the taste. However, LightLife does offer a wide variety of plant-based protein products for vegetarians, flexitarians and those like us, just trying to eat a little healthier.

I first came across Gaia Herbs a couple of years ago when I was researching the benefits of Elderberry and the immune system. Our whole family takes a daily elderberry to help support our immune systems, With work, school and play- it's important that we take every precaution to stay healthy!

Sponsored Post by Moms Meet- Rainbow Light Power Sours Multivitamin

Posted by Heather at Saturday, November 14, 2015 0 comments
**Disclaimer-I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms MeetSM program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms MeetsSM blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

Lil' Miss started kindergarten this year.... and with it comes the onslaught of germs.... Colds! Sore Throat! Cough! And, of course, the dreaded flu!! Those darn elementary school are a darn petri dish of all sorts of nasty germs!

I've been giving Lil' Miss a multivitamin for awhile now. And, while I'm happy with her current supplements, I was interested and intrigued to try the more natural, non-GMO Rainbow Light Power Sours Multivitamin.

Here is a little more information about the Rainbow Light Power Sours Multivitamin:

"Rainbow Light®, the #1 most trusted natural vitamin brand* , delivers research-based formulations that include a blend of superfoods, organic, non-GMO spirulina, plant enzymes, probiotics, and botanicals for enhanced digestion, absorption, and a difference you can feel. Rainbow Light has formalized its 30 year history of good corporate citizenship with its Circle of Care program, encompassing the company’s work as founding supporter of Vitamin Angels and a growing network of aid partners to provide life-saving nutrition to mothers and babies everywhere. Rainbow Light keeps over 10 million plastic bottles out of the waste stream annually with its trademarked, 100% upcycled EcoGuard™ bottles."

Just the Facts
• Rainbow Light’s Power Sours® Multivitamin Gummies deliver essential nutrition and provide potent-immune support for children ages 4+.
• Specially formulated with clinically research key nutrients, plus an extra boost of vitamin C, Rainbow Light Power Sours support optimal growth & development.
• Power Sours Multivitamin Gummies promote healthy bones, brain, and eyes, plus balanced energy. • These naturally fruit-flavored gummies are additive and preservative free and available in four delicious flavors: strawberry, pineapple, raspberry, and lemon.
• Rainbow Light’s Power Sours retail for $17.99.

My first reaction when Katy opened up the package was the that the vitamins smelled bad. Not rancid, or spoiled. Rather, they smelled fake. Kind of ironic for a vitamin company that claims to be natural.

However, Lil' Miss was non-plussed by the smell and she swallowed the vitamins without complaint. She proclaimed the vitamins to be favorable in taste and she asks for Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral (over her typical vitamins).

As a mom, I appreciate a vitamin that is free of preservatives and artificial dyes (the Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral are also free of gluten, wheat, milk, soy, nuts, eggs, fish and yeast). I can also appreciate the fact that Rainbow Light Power Sours Multivitamin come in 100%  upcycled bottles/boxes. The Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral come in convenient single-serve packets (which, in my opinion, is an excess of packaging).

Three gummy bears make up a serving of Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral (ages four and older). Personally, I find three bears to be border-line too much. The Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral contain 5g of sugar opposed to the 3g (for two bears/serving) found in Katy's typical, main-stream multivitamin.

So, in conclusion, I'd say that it's a toss-up. Lil' Miss enjoyed the taste of the Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral. It's too difficult to monitor its effectiveness to promoting health and boosting her immunity. As a parent, though, you just have to choose which (if any) multivitamin to give to your child. Do you choose eco-friendly, non-GMO, preservative-free Gummy Bear Essentials Multivitamin and Multimineral with more sugar and a funky smell? Or, do you just go with the mainstream and go with less sugar, less/serving name-brand multivitamins? YOU decide...

Sponsored Post by Moms Meet- Lundberg Thin Stackers

Posted by Heather at Sunday, June 28, 2015 0 comments
**Disclaimer-I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms MeetSM program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms MeetsSM blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

Lundberg Think Stackers

My five year old loves cheese and crackers! She would eat them for lunch and dinner, if I allowed it. We go through a lot of saltines in the Jones household! However, saltines don't really have much substance (or, nutritional value) and I always feel like I could and should be providing my family with better nutrition (than just the flour and salt that make up a saltine cracker). So, when I recently had the opportunity to review the Lundberg Thing Snackers Rice Cakes, I jumped at the opportunity.

First, here is a little more about the Lundberg Family Farms and their mission to produce and provide organic products; "Lundberg Family Farms® has been producing high-quality, natural, and organic products since 1937. They’re dedicated to growing their rice using sustainable methods and work hard to conserve water resources, build soil integrity, and support a healthier ecosystem. Lundberg Family Farms wants to deliver the purest food possible to all families, and they pride themselves on making great-tasting products that are better for you, your family, and the environment." It's hard to argue with a mission statement like that! That's definitely a product that I can get behind as a mother and consumer.

Lundberg Think Stackers

Now, let's specifically discuss Lundberg Thin Snackers Rice Cakes! Here are just the facts:

• Fans of Lundberg Rice Cakes will love their new Thin Stackers®—a tasty, thinner cake featuring whole grain goodness packed into a light and crisp snack.
• Thin Stackers are USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and made with whole grains. They are also vegan, kosher, and gluten free.
 • Packaged in a box with two stay-fresh sleeves, Thin Stackers are convenient and portable for a quick snack on-the-go.
• Every Lundberg Family Farm product is made with real ingredients that you can recognize and has an easy-to-read ingredient list.
• Thin Stackers are available in four delicious varieties: 5 Grain, Red Rice & Quinoa, Lightly Salted, and Salt-Free.
• A 6 oz. box retails for $3.49 and includes 24 Thin Stackers

Lundberg Think Stackers

Lil' Miss tried the Lundberg Thin Stackers Brown Rice, lightly salted rice cakes. She topped her rice cakes with cheese and pepperoni (don't worry, it was locally sourced, nitrate/nitrite free pepperoni!). Her first reaction was that the cakes were a bit plain and boring. However, once she topped them with her favorite toppings, she munched away happily. The size of the square cakes were easy for my daughter to manage and the shape lent itself nicely to slices of cheese.

While I don't think I would necessarily sit down and eat the Lundberg Thin Stackers Brown Rice plain, I do feel that they would be a great vehicle for your favorite toppings and spreads. Plus, with just two ingredients (just organic brown rice and sea salt- that's it! I always appreciate when I can easily identify and pronounce ingredients), minimal sodium and fat, and four whole cakes making up a 100 calorie serving, it's a much better/healthier alternative to carb-laden bread and sodium-rich saltine crackers. I would even consider taking Lundberg Thin Stackers as a work lunch.
