Jalie Patterns- Kate (3901) Gymnastic Leotard Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Kate (3901) Gymnastic Leotard

Missy swims year-round and that means that she's in the pool at least three times a week. That also means that she goes through a lot of suits, she's tough on them and that her swimsuits need to not only fit well, but withstand the stress and frequency of lap swimming and swim team drills. These are all reasons why I love sewing swimsuits!

Kate (3901) Gymnastic Leotard is part of the new Jalie Sewing Patterns Spring Collection. By adding the width of the elastic in the arm and neckband, serging on and then flipping, I was able to modify the Jalie Sewing Patterns- Kate (3901) Gymnastic Leotard into a great swimsuit! It has great back and front coverage and fun front/back neckline detailing. I sewed up a size "O" graded to an "N"in custom fabric from Peek-a-Boo Fabric Shop.

Of course my little mermaid loves her new swimsuit and I'm happy to report that the Jalie Sewing Patterns- Kate (3901) Gymnastic Leotard (as a swimsuit) passed the swim team practice test! ;)

Jalie Patterns- Nicole (3903) Mock Neck Top and Shift Dress Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns-Nicole (3903) Mock Neck Top and Shift Dress

Last, but not least, a Jalie Sewing Patterns sew for ME! Jalie Sewing Patterns-Nicole (3903) Mock Neck Top and Shift Dress is part of their new Spring Collection. This simple top/dress pattern is the perfect base to create a wonderful me-made wardrobe!

Jalie Sewing Patterns-Nicole (3903) Mock Neck Top and Shift Dress

I sewed up a size "U" Jalie Sewing Patterns-Nicole (3903) Top in cotton lycra (I believe that i got this lovely floral in a box-o-pretties from Purpleseamstress Fabrics awhile back). I did shorten the top to account for my height (5'-0"). The bust darts really help in giving the pattern shape and sets it apart from all other t-shirt patterns. The sloping of the armcyce is perfect- no gathers or creases of an ill-fitting garment, here! I can't WAIT to sew it up as a dress!

Jalie Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress

It's springtime and my favorite Canadian PDF sewing pattern company, Jalie Sewing Patterns, is releasing their newest collection. Today, I'm showcasing the Jalie Sewing Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress.

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress

I sewed up a size "O" open back top. I used some thin jersey knit (found at Hobby Lobby) for the front and cotton lycra from Purpleseamstress Fabrics for the rest of the top. I love the detailing in this pattern! The racerback and cut-out opening look impressive but are easy to achieve (I promise!). The wrap-around back and slit sides give the top dimension and make it easy for the wearer to move. The Jalie Sewing Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress is the perfect top or dress for working out and upcoming hot summer months!

As with all Jalie Sewing Patterns, 27 sizes are included in the price of just one pattern! Each pattern includes measurement and yardage charts. Step-by-step illustrated instructions make the pattern easy to understand (plus, you can always read the full instructions BEFORE purchasing, on their website!).

Also, I wanted to mention that I paired the Jalie Sewing Patterns- Nikita (3902) Workout Singlet and Swing Dress with the Jalie Sewing Patterns Clara (3887) High -waisted Leggings and Julia (3886) Bralette. Can (I just say that the  Jalie Sewing Patterns Clara (3887) High -waisted Leggings are AHHHHH-MAAAAZING.....!?!??!?!??!?! I LOVE that the Jalie Sewing Patterns Clara (3887) High -waisted Leggings do NOT have a front seam and the contoured waist and gusset construction are the perfect fit!)

Basically Jalie Blog Tour- Swim Basics

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, February 12, 2019 11 comments

#3889 (Melanie Kimono) and #3134 (Racerback Swimsuit)

Hello, lovely readers and welcome to my stop on the Basically Jalie Blog Tour! The Basically Jalie Blog Tour features over twenty bloggers, over the course of a week, using Jalie patterns as a wardrobe staple. Since February is my daughter's birthday month (!!) and since my daughter also swims competitively, we took Jalie to the pool! :)

Today, I'm featuring the #3889 (Melanie Kimono) and #3134 (Racerback Swimsuit). One of the (many) reasons that I love to sew up Jalie patterns is the fact that all Jalie patterns include 27 sizes- from toddler size 2 all the way to women's size 22 (US). That's a HUGE size range included in the price of one pattern. For a point of reference, I sewed up a size "O" in both patterns.

#3134 (Racerback Swimsuit)

For the #3134 (Racerback Swimsuit), I didn't deviate from the pattern. I also didn't include the optional piping. Swimsuits (in general), can be difficult and time-consuming to piece together and sew. However, I find them greatly satisfying once completed. Plus, if I'm really honest, I really love the fact that I don't have to iron/press anything when sewing with swim fabric (haha!). ;-)

#3889 (Melanie Kimono)

For the #3889 (Melanie Kimono), I used a thick, mystery, border knit (I know, I know- the pattern suggests drapey wovens- I'm a rebel ;-). The fabric is a mix between a french terry and maybe a type of not-so-stretchy sweatshirt material- perfect for a chilly swimmer getting out of the pool, in between heats. Because I was cutting around that GORGEOUS border print, I did have to piece together the belt and I used ribbon for the belt loops. I LOVE how the Melanie Kimono came together- enclosed neckline seams and easy-to-wear drop shoulder sleeves.

Also, thanks to my sew sister Ti, of Simply by Ti, I want to highlight the great swim fabric that I received from her online shop. The black and pink swimsuit fabric is thick and sturdy- just want you need in swim material. It was easy to sew up and didn't fall apart while assembling and sewing. Shipping from Simply by Ti (WY) to myself (NC) was fast and prompt. I would defiantly order from Simply by Ti, again.

So, whether you are sewing for everyday, or, for a specific sport such a swimming; Jalie patterns are a great option! If you go to their website, you can even go ahead and read through the instructions BEFORE purchasing (and, remember, each pattern includes a huge size range of 27 sizes). Feel free to be inspired by the other bloggers and sewists on the Basically Jalie Blog Tour by checking out their links, below. Happy Sewing!
