Christmas 2015
Christmas Eve Dress, sewn by moi
Christmas 2015 was a quiet affair spent with the Jones grandparents. Katy was lucky enough to spend the whole week preceding Christmas with Nanny and Poppy Jones (Yay!) while Mommy and Daddy had to work (Boo!). She got to go to the library, Painted Pottery and out to lunch with the grandparents. Lucky girl!
We went to church as a family Christmas Eve. The 3PM service was packed at Elevation!
Christmas Eve Jones Family Picture
After we came home from church, we enjoyed a fun, fondue dinner. Lil' Miss got to open gift Christmas Eve (always Pjs). This year, though, it was a matching Dolly and Me Nightgown set for Katy and Samantha! (I swear, that doll is like a fourth member of our family- ha!).
#XmasJammies
The night before Christmas, Katy was super excited! We told her that she could come down no sooner than 7:30AM Christmas morning. Unbeknownst to Ted and I, she woke the grandparents up at 1:30AM to go open presents. The funny part was, Nanny was almost ready to let her do it (until Poppy glanced at his phone and realized that it was only 1:30AM in the morning!).Thankfully, they tucked her back in bed.
Then, at 3:30AM, Lil' Miss was kind enough to wake Ted and I up, too. However, this time, Ted tucked Katy back into bed.
Of course, when it was actually 7:30am in the morning (a decent time to wake up and open presents!), Lil' Miss was fast alseep and sawing logs.... haahhahahahhaha!
We finally got started around 8:30/9AM Christmas morning. Lil' Miss had a pile of presents to go through but she made quick work of it! She's a lucky little girl to have so many people in her life that not only shower her with gifts but love her through and through!!
If I were to pick a theme for this year's Christmas, I'd say it was a very Merry Shopkins Christmas. (Christmas 2013 was brought to you by My Little Ponies, last year was Frozen Themed ;-). Oh, those tiny, characterized plastic figurines of food, clothes and other shop-able items....! Their pull alludes me but they are super, duper popular with the under eight crowd and Katy is no exception. She LOVES Shopkins!!
Katy spent most of the day playing with her new toys. We ended the day with our traditional Chinese Take-out Dinner (no prep, non clean up- Merry Christmas to me!).
Merry Christmas, one and all!

Sentence of the Day- Delight
Nanny and Poppy gave Lil' Miss some Halloween hair bobbles for the upcoming October holiday. I was doing Katy's hair, this morning, and she was selecting which one to wear. As she was hemming and hawing, she enthusiastically exclaimed, "These (hair bobbles) make me burn with delight!!"
(I did not make that up- straight from Katy's mouth!!) Oh my goodness, that girl cracks me up!! The things she says....!!

Easter 2014 in NJ
"We spent Easter in NJ, this year!"
"We went to church with Nanny and Poppy. I even got to wear my pretty dress that they gave me for my birthday, back in February."
"Family Picture Time!"
"After church, Nanny and Poppy had an Easter Egg Hunt just for me!"
"There were lots of eggs to find!"
"On the Monday after Easter, Nanny and Poppy took me to the Philadelphia Please Touch Museum. It was so much fun! There was so much to see and do! We stayed for about five hours.
The adults were all taking bets about when I'd fall asleep, in the car, on the way home from the museum. They were all wrong- I stayed awake and NANNY fell asleep!
Lots of fun, all around!"

Sentence of the Day- "Up There..."
Yesterday was Katy's last day of Preschool before Easter/Spring break. Katy was talking to her teacher from last year, Ms. Amber. Ms. Amber asked Katy what she was doing for Easter. Pointing her finger upwards, she replied, "We're going up there- not heaven- just New Jersey, to visit my Nanny and Poppy."
Hahahahaha....!

A Very Merry My Little Ponies Christmas 2013!
Ready to ride!
Christmas morning 2013 was brought to you by Hasbro- specifically, My Little Ponies. Katy's current obsession with MLP started last Christmas when Uncle Rob and Aunt Julie gifted her with her first My LIttle Pony, Princess Cadence.... and the rest, as they say, is history! Since then, we've amassed quite the equestrian collection of Twilight, Rarity and the gang. Now, if only I could find MLP fabric....
I digress, though. Back to Christmas morning 2013...
I woke up around 6:30 AM, got showered and dressed, went downstairs, made myself some coffee, sliced up some lemon bread, turned on the Christmas tree lights, the fireplace and some holiday music, took some pictures and checked my email- all before Katy woke up about an hour later. Then, when she finally woke up, all she wanted to do was snuggle, so I was okay with that. After stalling long enough, though, Katy went in to wake Nanny and Poppy Jones.
Then the real fun began! We all went downstairs and Katy- being the only child present- was followed by a paparazzi of flashes while she opened gift after gift for the next couple of hours. Her bike from Santa was out in plain sight and it was the first thing she saw. Her wide-mouthed, excited reaction was priceless and I believe it's safe to assume that she liked her bike with baby seat (want) and helmet (need) from the jolly man in red.
Katy was the recipient of many wonderful gifts that she enjoyed. A remote control dog from Aunt Megan and Uncle Jason, a baby doll with accessories from Gaga Jones, MLP purse, activity book from Uncle Rob and Aunt Julie, a herd of ponies and many other gifts from Nanny and Poppy Jones and a Highlights magazine subscription, MLP book and game from Grandma and Pop-Pop Tinkey. (Katy received as set of dolls/clothes from Aunt Hope and Uncle Eric and Crayons/coloring set from Uncle Josh and Aunt Delinda, earlier in the season).
After we finished opening presents, Ted cooked up a festive brunch of Christmas-shaped pancakes (a reindeer for Katy, a stocking for Nanny and Santa for Poppy). After brunch, Lil' Miss had to taker her new bike out for a spin- never mind that it was 33 degrees outside!! She didn't seem to mind the chilly temps at all and I have a feeling she'll be riding the bike like a pro, before long!
In keeping with the laid-back vibe of the day, we decided to go out and see the movie, Frozen, this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I enjoyed the movie almost as much as Katy did. Lil' Miss had a good ol' time eating popcorn and M&Ms throughout the movie (no judging, please- it's Christmas, afterall! ;-).
We returned home from the movie late afternoon. Katy played a little more with her new toys while the adults made phone calls to relatives. After everybody had spoken to everybody, we ordered Chinese take-out for dinner (no cooking, minimal clean-up- Merry Christmas to me :-). We watched White Christmas while eating dinner. That girl LOVES White Christmas (or, as she calls it, "Bob and Judy," or, "Bob and Betty.")!!
Katy was tuckered out by the day's events and didn't put up much of a fight going to bed. The adults ended the evening on a fun note while playing a rousing couple of rounds of Balderdash- love that game!
Merry Christmas 2013!

Christmas at the Library 2013
After last year's long wait to just get into the parking lot, we made sure to leave extra early in order to be there in time for our 6PM dinner reservation. As luck would have it, we ended up getting to the Library in record time and pulled in shortly behind my parents (who drove in straight from FL- what luck is that?!).
After we parked, we took in the Living Nativity, the singing and the Library decorations. Then, we took the shuttle back to the dining hall and enjoyed our meal. Even though Lil' Miss was a bit wound up, she managed to pack away some ham and mashed potatoes (and one measly carrot)! Katy was slightly disappointed to find not one chocolate offering on the dessert menu (We tried to tell her that the red velvet cupcake was just a chocolate cupcake dressed up for Christmas, but she wasn't buying it! She later told me that she didn't like the "Christmas chocolate."). Nonetheless, the rest of the adults found the meal- and desserts- delicious!
It was fun!

Katy and Lilo- BFFs!
Katy LOVED playing with Lilo, last week at Uncle Rob's and Aunt Julie's house!
Lilo was a good sport about all of Katy's antics.
Hugs for Lilo!

Island Style- Hawaii Vacation
| A free photo slideshow by Smilebox |
March 8th dawned bright and early as we started our trek out to the 50th state. We made it to San Francisco without a hitch and braced ourselves for a long layover (When we originally booked the flights, we had the choice of a 45 minute layover, or a three and a half hour layover. Not much of a choice, if you ask me). Our long layover turned into an even LONGER layover as we had to wait for 90 customers delayed from another plane.
Nevertheless, we made it to Honolulu around 9 PM (Hawaii time), greeted by our gracious hosts and tour guides (aka, Ted's brother Rob and his wife, Julie :-). Our luggage arrived with us (yay!) and we made our way to their home on the other side of the mountains, where we ate and promptly went to bed! While Ted and I may have been weary travelers, Lil' Miss had other plans for us as she was up well before five AM (Hawaii time). That darn time zone change!
The first day in Hawaii was a nice, relaxing day. We took a morning walk with Lilo (their dog), played at a nearby park, swam in the pool and enjoyed the company. Julie and I went to the grocery store for the week while Ted and Katy stayed home to play with the pets.
Sunday didn't quite go as planned but we had fun, nonetheless. We parked in Waikiki and did some shopping (can't go to Honolulu without going to the biggest tourist trap of all, right?). We then started walking to the Honolulu Zoo (just a few short blocks away), when it started to rain. Alot. One umbrella + four people + lots of rain = some soggy memories (Julie, you were right- I admit it, we needed that second umbrella!). So, instead of the zoo, we opted for the aquarium, which was mostly indoors (thank goodness!).
We met some of Rob and Julie's friends, who also have a three year old named Max, at the aquarium. Katy was excited to see all of the fish and sea life. She was pretty excited when she spotted a blue fish that looked just like "Dory" in the movie, Finding Nemo.
Monday was another chill day so we all made it out to the beach. While we were first getting there, we got to see a wedding photo shoot going on. Apparently, Lanikai beach is a pretty popular photo destination for weddings, TV shows and magazine shoots.
Rob and Ted got to do some snorkeling while Katy split her time between digging around in the sand and splashing in the water. Lil' Miss loves the sun, sand and surf!
After we got all cleaned up from the beach, we all went to a Hawaiian Luau at the Hale Koa Hotel. Of course Katy was wiped out from her afternoon on the beach, so she fell asleep on the way to the luau. This made her a little grumpy at the beginning of the luau but she still participated in some of the events (while Mommy and Daddy enjoyed sipping Mai Tais :-).
For the pre-show entertainment, there was lei making, poi ball demonstrations, fresh coconut to try and a Hawaiian band playing. We eventually coaxed Katy into making a flower lei bracelet (that girl loves jewelry!) and she enjoyed watching the other children swing the poi balls around.
Soon it was dinner time! YUM! We feasted on Cucumber and Papaya, Seaweed Salad, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Fresh Pineapple, Kalua Pork, Mahimahi Fish, Soy Sauce Chicken, Teriyaki Beef, Fried Rice, Poi, Sweet Potato, Banana Fritter. No big surprise, but Katy the carnivore enjoyed the meats, mostly.
Our big surprise for the evening was that Katy actually wanted to participate in the Hula Dancing demonstration. When they called for volunteers, I asked Katy if she wanted to go as long as I went with her. So, she and I hurried down to the stage and Ted hurried to grab the camera to take pictures. Katy mostly watched, rather than participate, but I think she enjoyed it. However, when we asked her what she liked best about the evening, she replied, "Slapping," referring to the Samoan part of the dinner entertainment where the male dancers beat their bare chest in rhythm to the music. She was cracking up throughout the whole "slapping" section of the entertainment (don't worry, it was meant to be somewhat funny). She never ceases to surprise us!
Tuesday was our tour of the Dole Plantation. We road the Pineapple Express (no, not the movie), and got to see the vast pineapple fields. We even got to see some workers working the field and picking the fruit. After the train ride, we fed the koi fish at the pond, had some silly pictures taken and then of course, we feasted on the ever-famous Dole Whip ice cream- YUM!
Wednesday Ted and Julie went paddling while Rob, Katy and I stayed on the beach. Katy had a blast digging around in the sand and sticking her toes in the water.
Later Wednesday afternoon, we had grilled out with Max and his mother, Felicia. After we had fully bellies, we then went to the pool. The kids had ceaseless amounts of energy and had a great time playing together!
Ted and I got to go to Pearl Harbor by ourselves on Thursday while Katy enjoyed the day, by herself, with Aunt Julie and Uncle "Sushi" as she started calling Rob at the beginning of the trip. It was nice for Ted and I to experience the Pearl Harbor Memorial on our own and in all honesty, I don't think that Katy would have gotten much out of it at her age, right now.
Katy, on the other hand, had fun with her Aunt and Uncle. She got to help take Lilo for a walk, help Julie pick out her clothes for the day (a dress, of course, to match her own!) and go to Sea Life Park. She had a minor meltdown before they even got into the park, I'm told, but once she got inside, she had fun. She enjoyed watching the other children interact with the animals. She later told me that she saw dolphins, penguins, seals and turtles.
We ended our beautiful Hawaiian vacation with a hearty breakfast from Boots and Kimo's. Fried rice for breakfast? Yes, please!
Eventually, though, Rob and Julie had to take us back to the airport to catch our flight home. We had so much fun soaking up the Hawaiian sun (it was really good for my hands!), and learning more about the island ways and seeing the local sites. Mahalo, Rob and Julie for being our gracious hosts, tour guides and getting to spend some quality time together for the week!

Moving Day
With the upcoming end of our current lease at the end of February, I had been stalking several key neighborhoods in the area for rental homes. It's funny how your needs change once you have a child... we wanted something with more room, better schools, a pool to use in the summer, good commute for Ted, etc., etc. We finally found one that we liked and signed on the dotted line back in January. February 16th was moving day!
Ted and I took the beginning of February to move boxes into the new house. I was able to establish the kitchen and we had all of Katy's toys in the new house before moving day. Ted even got the television and his Xbox set up, too.
Last Saturday (Moving Day!) dawned cold, rainy and snowy. Up until the Thursday before moving day, the weatherman was forcasting 10% chance rain on Sat. Then, all of a sudden, it was 60% chance snow! WHAT?!?!?!?!
And that, dear readers, set the tone for the day....
The night before the move, Katy was up all night with a fever. No other symptoms. Just a fever- enough to keep us both up and not well-rested for our busy day ahead.... Katy was clingy during the day of the move and of course, she only had eyes for Mommy... One of our friends ended up chipping his tooth while moving our washing machine... There were bumps! There were bruises! There was mud!
While Ted and our "moving crew" (aka friends and family gracious enough to help us undertake this moving endeavor in inclement weather- thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Dad J., Dan OD, Daniel C. Justin K. and Howard H.!!!) loaded up the UHAUL at the old house, Katy, Ted's Mom, and I went to the new house to get things ready and prepped for the incoming furniture. It took the guys two and half hours to load the truck in the snowy, wet weather.
When our weary "moving crew" got to the new house, they got things into the house in about an hour and a half. Just in time because shortly after the last item was in the house, it really began to snow! (By night's end, we probably ended up with an inch or so of snow- that's a lot, here in the South!) After everything got moved in, we all enjoyed a pizza lunch and donuts in front of our new fireplace! We were wiped out and tired!
Now, we are in the midst of settling into our new home. Thanks to Ted's parents, we are MUCH further along in that process than we had originally hoped (THANK YOU!). The walls may be bare and void of pictures and we may be sleeping next to piles of unfolded laundry and boxes, but, it's beginning to look like home... :-)
So, the moral of this story is, we don't plan on moving any time soon, but when we do, we're hiring professional movers (we'd like to keep our friends! :-)! Whew!

Thanksgiving 2012 Recap
"This Thanksgiving, we drove to New Jersey to spend the holiday with the Jones side of the family."
"At the Virginia Welcome Center, there was a playground- perfect for getting the wiggles out!"
"Mommy and Daddy said that the car ride was only supposed to be nine hours.
It wasn't.
They lied- it was12 hours.
12 very, very, very, VERY LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG hours in the car!
Completely closed highways! Traffic! Potty Breaks every hour and a half! DC Rush Hour!
When we saw a man riding a horse along the side of the road, Mommy said that it was a sign. She said that it was only the first horseman of the Apocalypse. I don't think she was joking- she was pretty grumpy.
Eventually, I fell asleep in the car... at five PM in the afternoon! So much for normal bedtime!"
"Happy Turkey Day! Gobble, Gobble!"
"PopPop turned on the Macy's Day Parade for me to watch on Thanksgiving. I liked it but I was enjoyed the National Dog Show that came on afterwards, better!" (No joke!)
"One big happy family!" ;-P
"I had a yummy turkey cupcake for dessert."
Happy Thanksgiving 2012!!

Time Warner Cable BBQ and Blues Festival
Ready for some BBQ!
Since the grandparents were in town and the weather was nice, we decided to go to the Time Warner Cable BBQ and Blues Festival, today. In the past, this festival was held in Uptown Charlotte was called "Blues, Brews and BBQ." However, now that it has a sponsor the name and location has changed. It's okay though, all the locals still refer to it by it's old name.
Typically, this festival is held around in September, around Ted's birthday. This year, however, since the DNC was being held in Uptown at that time, the festival was moved back. Turns out, it was better weather this way! (Remember all those bummed Democratic supporters that had to miss Obama's speech when the closing ceremonies were moved indoors, due to rain?)
I have to say, though, this year's festivities were a bit of a let-down. I don't know if we got there too early, or what- but there wasn't much of a crowd (not complaining!) and there wasn't a whole lot to do. There weren't many places to sit and enjoy some 'que and the music on the main stage was CRANKING (and not in a good way!!!!
We didn't let the loud music deter us from enjoying some really good ribs and brisket from Mac's, though! We just found a grassy curb and dug right in- delish!
As we were walking out of the festival, I took a spin at the 5/3 Bank wheel and ended up winning a hat and a chair! So, I'd have to say we had fun despite the lack of entertainment and in spite of the loud (bad) music!

Preschool Pumpkin Picking
"Today was my first Preschool field trip- we went to Riverbend Farm to pick pumpkins!"
"Nana and PopPop joined us on the field trip."
"This is my friend, Addyson. She's my best bud at school. I like to play with her and sit next to her at lunchtime."
"Giddy up, Horsey! Ride 'em cowgirls!!"
"Look at this cool water wheel! Here I am checking it out with some friends from school."
(Notice, they are all boys- Daddy isn't to fond of this...)
"Here's my cheesy smile- Mommy sure likes to take a lot of pictures!"
"So many pumpkins, so little time... decisions, decisions, decisions...."
"Wheee....!"
"BIG girl slide, ALL BY MYSELF!!" (This made Mommy a little nervous.)
"Hugs and snuggles for my PopPop!"
"Do you like my pumpkins? I ended up naming the big one, 'Veggie Tale.' Happy Pumpkin Picking!"
