Gangnam Style

Posted by Heather at Sunday, June 16, 2013 0 comments
"Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style..."

"...Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style..."

"...Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style..."

"...Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh..."

"...Oppa is Gangnam style..."

*While we were at the baseball game, last Friday, the song, 'Gangman Style' came on. Immediately, Katy started dancing and grooving. I don't think she's even heard the song, before. Yet, as soon as the song started, she was moving and grooving like PSY and the best of them. Ha!

Sentence of the Day- Father's Day Card

For Father's Day, this year, Katy made a card for Ted. She scrawled some scribbles on the inside and said that it was her "note" to Daddy. When Ted asked her to translate, Katy told him that the scribbles said, "Dear, love you, Daddy. I love you every morning but I don't like you at night (when you put me to bed). Love, Katy."

Well, at least she's truthful....

"Take Me Out to the Ballgame..."

"Take me out with the crowd..."

"Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks..."

"I don't care if I never come back..."

"For it's one, two, three strikes you're out.... at the old ball game!"

This past Friday was Lionel night at the Kannapolis Intimdators (Minor League Baseball). So, we joined Ted's co-workers for a little cook-out and some baseball. It was the Kannapolis Intimidators vs. the Rome Bears. While I couldn't tell you which team won, I can tell you that we all enjoyed our night out. Katy especially had fun running after the "big kids" and playing on the playground.

Happy Father's Day 2013- All About Daddy Questionnaire

Posted by Heather at Sunday, June 16, 2013 0 comments
Happy Father's Day, Ted! Here's to the all-nighters, the good times, the trying times and all of the times in between. Thanks for being such a good father!

Here is the second installment of the All Things Katy! Father's Day questionnaire.

Me, "How old is Daddy?"
Katy, "I don't know but I'm going to be four on my next birthday."

Me, "What is Daddy's full name?"
Katy, "Daddy."

Me, "What is Daddy's favorite food?"
Katy, "Peanut Butter and Jelly, Omelettes and he likes what I like."

Me, "What is Daddy's favorite color?"
Katy, "Green- Like Kermit."

Me, "What is your favorite thing to do with Daddy?"
Katy, "Have a Katy/Daddy Date. We go to the wing place. And we play wild games."

Me, "What is Daddy's favorite song?"
Katy, "He likes, 'Whole wide world in the palm of my hands....'" (song from latest Muppet Movie. For the record, she hasn't heard that song for several months).

Me, "What is Daddy's favorite movie?"
Katy, "Muppets. Anything Muppets."

Also, here are a couple of new questions for this year;

Me, "Who is Daddy married to?"
Katy, "You (pointing to me)."

Me, "What is Daddy really good at?"
Katy, "Mowing the lawn."
Me, "Anything else?"
Katy, "Nope. Just mowing."

Me, "What is Daddy's job?"
Katy, "Working at work. Doing the dishes." (Katy later told me that, "Daddy works at Lionel. He plays with trains and cars.")

Me, "What makes Daddy happy?"
Katy, "Sleep. And prayers."

Me, "How tall is Daddy?"
Katy, "Big- not like you, Mommy- you're a pop shorty."

Stormy Weather

Timber!

Bad day to be a tree...

Anybody need firewood?

A bad storm ripped through town, last night. I was in the midst of cooking dinner, waiting for Ted to get home from work, when all of a sudden, the sky turned black and it started pouring. I looked out the window (to the back yard) only to see one of our patio chairs fly into the potted herb garden and the tree branches flying horizontal to the ground. Yikes! (I later read that 70mph winds ripped through the area, causing widespread power outages and many downed trees).

Then, I heard a funny sound from the front yard and I went to investigate. It was a very large  limb from the tree in our front yard falling into the street (effectively blocking the road). Of course, at this point, it was still pretty bad weather-wise (thunder, rain, lightening), so there was no way I was going out in that storm to try and attempt to move it from the street to the yard! (Not that I could have really done much since it was a very large branch- pretty much half of the tree!)

After Ted got home and after the storm had subsided, a group of about eight of our male neighbors went from house to house helping each other clear the tree limbs from off of houses, cars and the street. Our poor neighbors across the street were on vacation and their tree fell onto their next door neighbor's house.

When I walked outside after the storm and looked down our street, it seriously looked like a hurricane (the real kind, not the figurative "my child is a mess" kind) had ripped through our neighborhood. About every other house either lost some tree limbs or bushes. Random trash littered  yards and the street (because, of course, Friday is trash day). It was definitely a bit surreal.

Everything is fine, now, and we were safe throughout the storm itself. The best thing we learned from the ordeal, though, is that we have some really great neighbors! Neighbors that pitch in and help out- we really do love our new neighborhood. :-)
