Love Notions Handmade Holiday Tour- Dolly Laundry Day Tee

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, December 05, 2017 3 comments

The holidays are upon us and it's full steam ahead with gift giving AND MAKING! My seven (and three quarters, as she so proudly adds) daughter LOVES her American Girl doll, Samantha! I joke that Sam is the fourth member of our little family because she joins us on vacations, holidays and life in general. ;) That being said, I typically end up sewing up something for Samantha to "unwrap" Christmas morning. Hahaha!

Two whole years ago, I tested the Love Notions Girl's Li'l LDT and loved it! Fast forward to today and that dress is now a top! Thanks to some begging suggestions, Tami (the talent and brains behind Love Notions) was kind enough to draft out a Dolly version of the Laundry Day Tee. YAYAYAY!!! Oh, and did I mention that it's a FREE pattern on the website?! #merrychristmas!)I had just enough matching fabric in my stash to make a dolly version of the Laundry Day Tee. #Twinks

Missy is going to LOVE matching her doll! The Love Notions Dolly Laundry Day Tee is the perfect, quick knit pattern to use up large fabric scraps AND gift to all the special little girls on your Christmas list! It's so simple to sew up that I think I'll be able whip up a couple more matching Love Notions Dolly Laundry Day Tees in time for Christmas morning!

Merry Christmas and Happy Sewing!

Love Notions Sloane Sweater Blog Tour

Posted by Heather at Friday, November 10, 2017 1 comments

Love Notions- Mommy and Me Sloane Sweater

Hello and welcome to my stop on the Love Notions Sloane Sweater Blog Tour! For my stop on the tour, I sewed up matching Sloane sweaters for my mini and I! Now that it's finally feeling like fall, we are comfy, cozy in our french terry Sloane sweaters!

Love Notions- Mommy and Me Sloane Sweater

I sewed up a size small Ladies Sloane sweater for myself and a size 8 girl's Sloane sweater for Missy. Both versions feature shirt-tail hems and a contrast back yoke, cuffs and neckband in brushed poly. Missy's Love Notions Sloane Sweater is a straight size eight with no modifications. However, because I am petite, I did shorten the sleeves by 1 1/2" and the bodice by 1/2".

Hubs managed to get some good pictures of me in my Love Notions Sloane Sweater. We did not, however, manage to get good pictures of just Missy in her version because... well... kids. KIDS.MOVE.ALOT.AND.IT.WAS.STARTING.TO.RAIN. Ya'  know how it goes... hahahaha!

Love Notions- Ladies Sloane Sweater- FRONT/BACK

Love Notions- Ladies Sloane Sweater- SHIRT-TAIL HEM

The only difference between our two shirts is the fact that Missy's Sloane sweater includes the fun thumbhole cuffs found here. She's been all about thumbholes, lately, so it was the perfect addition to her wardrobe!

Love Notions- Girl's Sloane Sweater w/ Thumbholes add-on

I've sewn lots of Love Notions patterns over the years, and I'm sure that I will sew up many, many more. However, I'm always amazed and pleased that Tami, the creative brains behind the brand, is able to anticipate exactly where in a pattern that I may need a little extra hand-holding. For example, when sewing up the Sloane Sweater contrast yoke, quartering the neckline in order to attach the neckband can be a bit tricky. Have no fear, though, there are are perfectly placed notches in the pattern to guide you (when I was cutting out the fabric I didn't even realize how important those little notches would be come, later! Thank you! :).

I love that the Love Notions Sloane Sweater can be sewn up for all aspects of life- work, play, vacation, holiday. Plus, the Love Notions Sloane Sweater looks just as good on a seven year old as it does an (almost) 37 year old... ;-) Comfy to wear, fun to sew!

Made for Mermaids and Patterns for Pirates- Sew What Do I Wear- Professional Edition

Posted by Heather at Thursday, October 26, 2017 1 comments

Hello, lovely Mermaids and Pirates! Thanks so much for joining me for my stop on the "Sew What Do I Wear- Professional Edition!"

As a working Mama AND a sewing Mama, I need to make sure that my selfish sews are not only stylish and fun but professional, as well. I work in a large corporate setting with a very strict dress code. We're talking suit jackets and ties for the men and not-too-short-not-too-low dresses/tops for women. The Made for Mermaids Mama Kourtney Knot Top and the Pirates for Pirates (free for Facebook members) Pirate Pencil Skirt are PERFECT for business wear!

The Made for Mermaids Mama Kourtney Knot Top has the right amount of fun and flair thanks to the knot feature. Yet, it still adheres to dress code with the multiple sleeve options and the hip length hemline.  And, nothing screams professional businesswear like a nicely tailored (Pirates for Pirates Pirate) pencil skirt (in the appropriate length).

It's so much fun to be able to sew for myself in all settings- date night, casual and work!

Now, go ahead and check out all of the other talented bloggers showing off their own M4M and P4P Professional wear!

Love Notions Origami Tunic Blog Tour

Love Notions- Mommy and Me Origami Tunic/Cardigan

Today, I'm sewing up the Love Notions Origami Tunic in a coordinated Mommy and Me set. Miss Seven (and a half, she'll remind you! ;), still loves to dress similarly and I'm just riding that wave as long as it lasts (it's so fleeting!).

Love Notions Ladies Origami Tunic (as a cardigan)- FRONT

First, let's talk about the Ladies Love Notions Origami Tunic PDF sewing pattern:

Love Notions Ladies Origami Tunic (as a cardigan)- FRONT

-Sized for XS-XXL
-3 sleeve lengths- short, 3/4 and long sleeve
-2 necklines- banded and cowl
-Optional Cardigan version
-2 hems- handkerchief or regular
-No-trim, layered pattern pieces
-Page layout and print page guide
-Sizing, fabric requirement and cutting guide included
-Step-by-step pictures and written instructions

Love Notions Ladies Origami Tunic (as a cardigan)- BACK

I sewed up a size small, non-handkerchief hem, long sleeve Love Notions Origami Tunic cardigan. I did shorten the front and back bodice pattern pieces for my 5'-0" height. I also shortened the sleeves and brought them in 1/2" to fit my arms, better. I love the easy wear-ability and the cascading front of the Love Notions Origami Tunic as a cardigan.  I just wanted to switch things up this time and make a cardi as I transition my wardrobe to fall layering pieces. I've made this pattern before as a regular tunic and I still get lots of wear from it.

Love Notions Ladies Origami Tunic (as a cardigan)- DETAIL

Next, let's discuss the Girl's Love Notions Origami Tunic PDF sewing pattern:

Love Notions Girl's Origami Tunic- FRONT

-4 sleeve lengths- sleeveless, short, 3/4 and long sleeve
-3 necklines- banded, turtleneck and cowl
-2 hems- handkerchief or regular
-Optional contrast hem pattern piece
-Layered pattern pieces
-Page layout and print page guide
-Sizing, fabric requirement and cutting guide included
-Step-by-step pictures and written instruction

Love Notions Girl's Origami Tunic- PORTRAIT

Missy is a dresses and leggings kind of gal- especially as we head into fall. Yet, she still plays hard needs to be able to move when it comes to her clothing. The Love Notions Origami Tunic is the perfect solution- perfect to cover her bum (in leggings), long enough to *almost* be a dress and easy enough to wear while at recess! I sewed her a straight size eight, handkerchief hem, banded neckline, 3/4 sleeves Love Notions Origami Tunic.

Love Notions Girl's Origami Tunic- BACK

I KNOW we'll get lots of wear out of our Love Notions Origami Tunics! Sew much fun to sew AND wear (and coordinate, of course ;-)!

Made for Mermaids- 35K Membership Milestone (Plus a special cause!)

Posted by Heather at Sunday, September 10, 2017 0 comments

One of my favorite pattern designers, Made for Mermaids is celebrating 35k members in their Facebook group! How amazing is that?!! I've been following and testing and sewing with #teammermaid from *almost* the beginning and I've been with them ever since! Congrats, Ladies- quite an accomplishment of quality, stylish patterns that appeal to girls and Mamas of all shapes, sizes, walks of life, from all around the globe! Sew Much Fun!!

Made for MermaidsGirl Cora Culottes- Size 8, above the knee, pockets in rayon spandex

I sewed up both the Girl Cora Culottes and the Mama Cora Culottes. Missy loves the fact that they are easy, breezy and include (optional) POCKETS! I love that I can dress them up for work (paired with a twin set and scarf), or dress them down with a t-shirt and denim jacket.

Size "Pink", 17" inseam (shortened for my height), no pockets in rayon spandex

As part of the 35k members milestone celebration, Megan G. designed the fun, stylish and easy-to-wear Cora Culottes in both girl's and Mama sizes. Since Megan G. is from Texas, she wanted to use the newest Cora Culottes pattern to help raise awareness and money to support local Texas charities and relief efforts from Hurricane Harvey. So, from now until the end of the month, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Cora Culottes ($3/each) will go towards Texas charities. Once October rolls around, the pattern will be free to members in the Facebook group (with code).

Sew, go ahead, support a great, unifying cause and sew up a cute pair of Cora Culottes while you're at it!

Sponsored Post- Sewing Ambassadors featuring Michael Miller Fabrics

Posted by Heather at Monday, August 14, 2017 0 comments

Good morning! Thanks to my lovely sponsors, Michael Miller Fabrics and Candice of Sewing Portfolios, I'm here to share my latest make featuring the "In Bloom" fabric line by Michael Miller Fabrics.

Missy loves wearing dresses and skirts (still!)! When tasked with sewing up these yummy Michael Miller Fabrics- Flower Yard, Linger and Thrive- I immediately thought of one of my personal favorite PDF sewing designers, Made for Mermaids. The pictured top is the Made for Mermaids Stacey Top and the bottom is the Made for Mermaids Skipper Skirt (in capri length). I return to these two patterns often, and they are the perfect palette to showcase multiple fabrics/patterns. Plus, as an added bonus- they are school dress code appropriate! #momwin

While the fabric line is titled, "In Bloom," they definitely felt "fall-ish" to me. So, I made both the top and bottoms in 3/4 length- the ideal "in between" for the changing seasons! As with all Michael Miller Fabrics, the colors are vibrant and crisp and perfectly paired within the collection!

Thank you,Candice and Michael Miller Fabrics, for the opportunity to sew up these fun fabrics! Sew much fun!

Love Notions Hip Hop Tank Tour

Posted by Heather at Friday, August 04, 2017 0 comments

Good morning! Welcome to my stop (and last day) of the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank Blog Tour. I've been eyeing the Ladies Love Notions Hip Hop Tank for as long as I can remember and the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank Blog Tour was exactly the push I needed to hurry up and make myself my very own Love Notions Hip Hop Tank!I'm sew glad that I did!

First, let's talk about the pattern itself. The Love Notions Hip Hop Tank PDF sewing pattern includes the following features:
-Sized for XS-XXL
-4 views- basic, tulip, button placket and color block
-Tank, sleeveless and cap sleeve options
-No-trim, layered pattern pieces
-Page layout and print page guide
-Sizing, fabric requirement and cutting guide included
-Step-by-step pictures and written instructions

I sewed up a size small, tulip back, cap sleeves Love Notions Hip Hop Tank. I used black cotton lycra for the front, binding and sleeves. I used a rayon challis woven for the floral tulip back. I subtracted 1" (to account for my height) from the front and back bodice pieces using the "lengthen/shorten" line included in the pattern pieces.

I had so much fun sewing up the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank! It really was a quick sew and so fun to wear! With the added cap sleeves, I can even wear my  Love Notions Hip Hop Tank to work. Who said "business casual" had to be boring?! ;-) Speaking of "business casual" I have another  Love Notions Hip Hop Tank planned using one of my husband's old button down work shirts for the back (instructions included in the pattern). There are so many ways to personalize the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank!

Now, how about a fun little giveaway? Yay!

Be sure to check out the other talented bloggers on the tour to see how they personalized their Love Notions Hip Hop Tanks!
