Little Lizard King- Winnie Pinnie Blog Tour
Good morning, LLKers!! I'm excited to join you on the second day of the Little Lizard King Winnie Pinnie Blog Tour!! While the Winnie Pinnie PDF sewing pattern is perfect just the way it is, I thought it would be fun to add a long, crossover waist sash to the mix.... I love a nicely tied sash and since I live in the South, I'm just going to go along with the Southern saying of, "...the bigger the bow, the closer to heaven...!" ;-P
Join me and I'll show you how I created my fun take on the Winnie Pinnie!
First things first...
For my Winnie Pinnie, I sewed up a size six, simple skirt (because, seriously- that gorgeous FABRIC....!!!). Speaking of fabric, I used the Art Gallery "Mother's Garden in Rich" from the Lavish collection for the main fabric. Also, I used the full width of fabric for each skirt piece.... because, well, THAT GORGEOUS FABRIC....!! The pretty pink batik lining/bow fabric was found locally at Mary Jo's Cloth Store (Shout out to my sew sisters for helping me find *just* the perfect coordinate during Girl's Day Out! ;).

Create the Sashes:
First, I cut out two long strips 4" wide by 44" long (So, basically, selvage to selvage because I like to keep things simple... you're welcome ;-).
4"W x 44"L
(Shown folded in half because it was super hard to photograph such a long piece!)
Wrong sides together, using a 1/2" seam allowance, I sewed up the long end of each sash piece. I ended up with two strips of 2" wide by 44" long. Also, I did form a point at the end of each sash.
I turned each sash piece right sides out. Then, I topstitched along both long ends and the pointed short end.
Next, I basted the completed sashes to the front main bodice piece, 5/8" above the bottom of the bodice. *Please note that the long tail of the sashes are facing toward the middle of the bodice.*
Topstiched Sash piece
Basted Sashes 5/8" from the bottom of the bodice piece.
Then, at the step where you complete the sides of the bodice, I made sure that my sash was sandwiched between the front and back bodice sides. From there, I completed the dress as instructed.
Sash Sandwich!
To Tie the Bow:
To create the crossover bow, I first pulled the sashes to the back of my model (while dress was on my model). Next, cross the sashes in the back.
Cross Sashes in the Back
(Side note- Just look at that pretty, perfectly matching button!)
Then, pull the sashes to the front and tie in a bow. I chose to tie the bow slightly to the side (but you can choose to tie it wherever you like).
Tie a Pretty bow in the Front.
Voila! The Little Lizard King Winnie Pinnie with a crossover sash! Happy Sewing!

Happy 15k Made for Mermaids!!
Mama and Me Made for Mermaids
One of my favorite PDF sewing pattern designers, Made for Mermaids, hit a huge milestone recently... 15K fans in their Facebook Group!!! To celebrate, they are offering not one, but TWO free patterns- Mommy and Me Chloe skirts! Head on over to the Made for Mermaids Facebook Group to grab the code to get the Chloe skirts for free (and a sale on other Made for Mermaids patterns)!! Woohoo!!
On a personal note, Megan of Made for Mermaids was one of the first designers to give me a chance in pattern testing. At the time that Lil' Miss was big into princesses, I first discovered Made for Mermaids and her line of Everyday Princess Dresses. My very first test for Made for Mermaids was the Aurora dress, back in February 2014. Katy was so itty!! Since then, I have seen Made for Mermaids grow, expand and still excel at PDF sewing patterns!
A big, wonderful CONGRATULATIONS, Made for Mermaids!!
Now, here are some of my Chloe skirts that I sewed up during testing....!
