Bento Box- PB&J

Posted by Heather at Monday, April 29, 2013 0 comments

Popcorn, PB&J and Apple Slices

Now that Lil' Miss can eat peanut butter and we reintroduced it into her diet, she wants it All.The.Time. So, when I asked her what she wanted packed for Lunch Bunch, last week, of course she asked for a PB&J sandwich. I did her one better, though, and gave her fun butterfly-shaped sandwiches. We had some leftover popcorn from an afternoon snack and we threw in some sliced apples and squeezy yogurt to round out the meal. I'm happy to report that most of this meal was actually consumed AT Lunch Bunch. :-)

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Whale Pail

Posted by Heather at Friday, April 26, 2013 0 comments

We moved back in February and one of my "must-haves" in a new house was a separate shower for us and tub for Lil' Miss. I was sick of *attempting* to shower around, and stepping on, her growing mound of bath toys.

Fast forward a couple of months and my wish came true! Lil' Miss has not only her own tub, but her own bathroom! Woohoo! Separate shower and separate tub, but still the same amount of bath toys and tub side clutter! What to do with all those toys?!

Enter in the Nuby Whale Pail! This fun, plastic whale-shaped pail lives up to it's claims. Not only does it help corral the clutter, but it does a pretty decent job of storing and draining the toys when not in use. Katy was able to use the Nuby Whale Pail to "scoop" up the toys and clean up after her bath was over, all by herself.

Installation is a breeze- just peel and stick! That thing is on there for life- not quite sure how we'll get it down when we move again....? I really liked that the Nuby Whale Pail was attached to the tub wall with adhesive opposed to suction cups (like so many other kiddie bath toy bins). Suction cups inevitably, 100% of the time, fall off. Usually in the middle of the night causing panic and alarm and loss of sleep (not that I would know from personal experience ;-P).

Here is what Nuby had to say about the Nuby Whale Pail, "Make bath time easier and more enjoyable with the Nuby Whale Pail! After bath time fun is over, Nuby Whale Pail makes cleaning quick and easy. Watch your baby giggle with delight as you scoop your favorite Nuby bath time toys into the whale's tummy. The pail has special drain holes built-in allowing for excess water to easily drain away from the toys and quickly air dry. Equipped with easy installation wall hooks, Nuby Whale Pail keeps bath time toys neatly on the bathroom wall."

Would you like a Nuby Whale Pail for your own tub? I would highly recommend it! Buy the Nuby Whale Pail at Buy, Buy Baby or Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Anniversary Number Eight

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, April 23, 2013 0 comments

Wedding Day, April 23, 2005

Eight years and still going strong! Through all the hard times (Jax. condo!), joyous times (birth of Katy) and all the times in between (job changes, moving, car troubles, family vacations and adventures local, national and international), I'm so glad to have you by my side each and every step of the way, Mr. Jones! I love our little family and can't imagine a better person to share life with.

Happy Anniversary to Us :-)

Sentence of the Day- Mr. Bun-Bun

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, April 23, 2013 0 comments
We have a new "friend" that comes to visit our backyard (mostly in the mornings). It's a brown little bunny that I usually refer to as, "Mr. Bun-Bun." Yesterday, we were rushing around, getting ready for Preschool and eating breakfast, when Katy noticed she hadn't seen Mr. Bun-Bun, yet. I asked her where she thought he was, and straight-faced and serious, she stated, "He's looking for his coffee."

Hahahaha...! Can you tell we are a coffee family?

Bento Box- Katy's Choice

Posted by Heather at Monday, April 22, 2013 0 comments

Ants on a Log, Pretzel Sticks, Veggie Sticks, Cantaloupe Chunks and Baby Carrots

Today's lunch is compliments of Lil' Miss. She chose everything that went into the lunch and then proceeded to eat very little of it at Lunch Bunch. She did, however, go on to eat almost everything at a later sitting (I think she just gets distracted at school with all the other kids and activities going on). Oh well, at least I'm told she was well behaved and didn't cry or fuss. That's a win in my book!

Daddy Daughter Date

Posted by Heather at Sunday, April 21, 2013 0 comments

Daddy Daughter Date Night!

Since I had a Mom's Night Out planned with some friends, last night, Ted and Katy got to go on a Daddy Daughter Date. Lil' Miss chose to go to her's (and Ted's!) favorite wing place, Quaker Steak and Lube for dinner. On a Saturday... An NHRA Saturday in the heart of NASCAR country...

Anywho, the Daddy Daughter Duo went early and drove the back way to the restaurant. I'm told the two had a lovely time. Katy insisted on dressing up for the occasion and (of course!) she had to have a little "makeup" on, as well.

Fun times were had all around!

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Splish Splash™ Stacking Cups

Posted by Heather at Friday, April 19, 2013 0 comments

Katy needs more new bath toys like I need more Clorox Wipes (OCD, I admit it!), but when I saw these Nuby Splish Splash™ Stacking Cups, I knew that she would love them! Ever since she played the "ice cube game" (aka, fill a cup with ice cubes, pour into another cup and then pour them back into the original cup. All the while, the ice melts and creates a soggy, wet mess) with Granny P., last summer, she has this fascination with pouring water from one cup to another and back again. Bath time entails a lot of such water play.

Just as I suspected, Katy loved the Nuby Splish Splash™ Stacking Cups. She filled and poured, filled and poured to her heart's content. The bottom of each cup has a shape punched out of it. So, there is some educational value to the cups, as well.

Here is what the Nuby website says about the product, "The Nûby™ Splish Splash™ Bath Time Stacking Cups teach coordination and development. Stacking bath cups are a bath time classic and provide endless fun. Your baby can stack them together, put things inside, and watch the water drain from the bottom of the cup. Nûby™ has created another fun and educational item, designed with your baby in mind!"

Would you like some Nuby Splish Splash™ Stacking Cups for your own little water lover? Pick them up at Buy Baby Direct, Cookie's, Amazon, or Baby Earth.

T-Shirt Refashion- Twirly Dress for Lil' Miss

"Here I am looking sweet and innocent. Mommy says looks can be deceiving ;-P"

"This is the perfect dress to practice some ballet..."

"Fitting in some "barre" work."

"Twirl and whirl..."

"Spin and SMILE!"

Bento Box- Back in the Swing of Things

Posted by Heather at Monday, April 15, 2013 0 comments

Chicken burger pieces and Cheese cubes, Strawberry Cereal Bar, Pretzels (Yes, I got them on clearance after Vday :-), Pineapple Chunks. (Not pictured, Juice Box and Strawberry Squeezy Greek Yogurt)

It's April and it's a new month at Preschool, for Lil' Miss! (Their spring break was the first week of April) Katy is participating in Wednesday Lunch Bunch, this month. She ate about half of it while at school and then we sat on the playground after I picked her up (beautiful, warm NC weather!) and she finished up the rest (minus the cereal bar).

Sentence of the Day- Rhyming Queen

Posted by Heather at Sunday, April 14, 2013 0 comments
Ever since Katy was little, she's been very good at rhyming words. Not all the words are necessarily "words" but they do usually rhyme in sound.

Today, she started telling me that her leg was "itchy." Then, she proceeds to list off words in a sing-song voice that rhyme with "itchy."

Katy, "Itchy, kitch-y, b*&%@...!" (Of course, she doesn't know what it means and I know for a fact that she hasn't heard that word at home!)
Me, "Katy, we don't say that last word. It's not a nice word."
Katy, "Why?"
Me, "Well, Katy, there are some words we don't say because they aren't nice and they hurt other people's feelings."
Katy, "Why?"
Me, "Let's just leave it at that, okay?"
Katy, "Can I at least tell my teachers?"
Me,(Lord, Heavens, NO!) "No, let's just try to rhyme some other words. What other words can we rhyme?"
Katy, "Okay... how 'bout 'witch-y'?"

!!!*sigh*!!!

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Printed Wash or Toss™ Cups

Posted by Heather at Friday, April 12, 2013 0 comments

I'm not sure at what age you give up sippy cups, but we still use them pretty regularly with our three-year old. It just makes life easier. And neater. Just sayin'.

Our new box of Nuby products came while Lil' Miss was napping (Napping- shocking!- I know! That only happens once in a blue moon, these days....). So, I had a chance to put away everything away without her knowledge. When I asked Katy to set the table for a (very!) late dinner, the other night, she went to the cabinet where we keep her cups/plates/bowls and she discovered her new Nuby Printed Wash or Toss™ Cups (with Dora the Explorer on them). She let out a squeal and did a happy dance right then and there!

Our pack of Nuby Printed Wash or Toss™ Cups came with three different Dora the Explorer designs. Of course, Lil' Miss selected the most pink, most floral, most girly one to try out first. We had no problems getting a tight seal and Lil' Miss had no problems using the cup. I loved that the cup has a space on it to write the child's name on it- perfect for Preschool or church Nursery. Nuby says that the cups are "affordable enough to be disposable," but in my personal opinion, they are definitely nice enough and sturdy enough to use multiple times before even thinking of tossing in the trash.

Here is what Nuby has to say about the Nuby Printed Wash or Toss™ Cups on their website: "Whether your child is into cars and trucks, princesses, or superheroes, Nûby™ has the right Wash or Toss™ cup for them! They are durable enough to use again and again, affordable enough to be disposable and feature fun and engaging prints. These cups are perfect for an afternoon in the park or everyday home use! Additionally, the cups and spouts are easily stackable for travel or home storage. And because they are from Nûby™, you can be assured that they are BPA Free!"

Would you like a set of Nuby Printed Wash or Toss™ Cups of your own? You can find them at the Dollar General or Bealls.

This is Why I'm Afraid of Parks and Playgrounds!

Posted by Heather at Thursday, April 11, 2013 0 comments

Little Gymnast at the Playground

See this little monkey? My pink-Princess-y-Look-Mom!-No-Hands!-feet-in-the-air little daredevil!?

Up until now, I've been able to quell my inner fear of parks and playgrounds and the dangers and risks that they pose to children. But  now... After watching Katy and her friends at playgroup flip, slip and trip their way down the slide any way BUT on their bottoms...!

Lord.Help.Me! (And please, please, PLEASE be safe, Katy Grace!)

Dress Shirt Refashion

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, April 09, 2013 0 comments

Little Miss Fashionista

While perusing Pinterest, I see alot of clothing refashions. You know the types- turn a big T-shirt into a cuter, more fitted T. Make a shrug out of another shirt. Modify pants into capris, etc, etc, etc.

Anywho, I ran across this turn-a-men's-dress-shirt-into-a-girl's-dress by Dana of DanaMadeIt (Love that site!). I never really thought much of it until we were moving back in February and Hubby was purging his closet. He had an old dress shirt that had a hole in the arm, but was otherwise in good shape. The tear wasn't at a seam, so mending it would result in a pretty obvious seam.

So, I decided to use the shirt dress by DanaMadeIt as inspiration to attempt my very own (and first!) refashion for Lil' Miss. I didn't really use a pattern, I just kind of started cutting and sewing to come up with my own creation.

What do you think? I think it turned out pretty cute (if I do say so myself!)! The cap sleeves just about killed me (I've never done sleeves, before) and don't even bother to look at the inside, but I am happy with the end results! I added the red ribbon from my stash for a pop of color, but I think I'll probably go shopping for a slightly thinner, less shiny red ribbon, later.

Hmm.... I wonder if Hubby needs to get "rid" of any more dress shirts.....;-P

Sentence of the Day- Katy Speak

Posted by Heather at Sunday, April 07, 2013 0 comments
Conversation between Ted and Katy at dinner, tonight:

Katy, "Pa-wana."
Ted, "What does that mean, Katy?"
Katy, "Pa-wana means 'chillax.'" (cue wide, open arms).

We have no clue where she got this one, but it was funny, nonetheless!

Easter 2013 with the Cousins- Katy LOVES Luke!

Katy LOVED playing and "taking care of" her littlest cousin, Luke! Needless to say, it made for ample photo opportunities throughout our Easter visit.

Even though Luke can hold his own bottle, Katy still wanted to assist.

Easter 2013 with the Cousins- Snow Day

Posted by Heather at Monday, April 01, 2013 0 comments
We spent the week preceding Easter with my sister in Pittsburgh. Words do not adequately describe the "adventures" that we encountered along the drive up (Snow storm! Ice! Rock Slide!), or while we were there (Five children, four and under... enough said!), or the drive home (95 car pile up on I-77 causing an unexpected stay in the mountains of VA!).

So, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is the first of several posts about our Easter 2013 Adventure!

It snowed the first day we got to Pittsburgh....

So, we bundled up the kids and played in the snow!

Molly Dolly in the snow.

A little snowy yoga...

All bundled up and barely able to move!

Katy, Molly and Luke playing in the snow (Rather, in Luke's case, just sitting and eating the snow).

Katy and Molly "work together" to build their first snowman!

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Sound Bites™

Posted by Heather at Monday, April 01, 2013 0 comments

We got the chance to try out the Nuby Sound Bites™ spoons, last week. We tried out the pink car spoons. While these spoons are quite young for my big girl three year old, she had fun using them, nonetheless. However, when we tried the spoons out with my 10 month old nephew, he had a blast! That little guy can eat! He kept reaching for the car while trying to get another bite.

*I would like to note that the car is detachable and needs to be wiped clean. Even the tiniest bit of water causes the engine sounds to go off sporadically while drying out.*

Here is what the Nuby website has to say about the Nuby Sound Bites™ spoons, "Nûby™ soft tip Sound Bite™ weaning spoons are designed to make mealtimes fun. The soft tip spoon is perfect for delicate gums and the deep bowl allows mom to get just the right amount of food on the spoon. The Train, Cars & Airplane designs come with their own great sounds to help you keep your baby’s attention for longer while feeding."

Do you want a Nuby Sound Bites™ spoons of your own? Head on over to Best Baby Gear. to purchase.
