A Rare Warm, Sunny January Afternoon...
"Even though it's still January, today was sunny and warm-
the perfect day to go to the park with my friend, Connor!"
"Together, we explored the park's silo together..."
"We rolled in the grass..."
"Connor is my best bud!

Long Hair, Short Hair, Grey Hair
We were playing a little game of "opposites" with Katy the other day. You know the Grover-esque game... The one where you ask the kid if something is long or short? Big or Little? In or Out? etc., etc., etc....
I asked her, "Is Mommy's hair long, or short?"
She replied, "Long."
I asked her, "Is Katy's hair long, or short?"
She replied, "Long." (and it is getting quite long!)
I asked her, "Is Daddy's hair long, or short?"
Katy replied, "Grey."
Hee, hee! I couldn't help but snicker at that one! ;-P
BTW, Lil' Miss, those grey hairs didn't make their first appearance until you were born.... just sayin' ;-D

Sentence of the Day- Boonies
We were driving home from a friend' s house on some back roads. The road was dark and windy. Just to tease the Piney in Ted, I made the comment,"Look! We're in the middle of nowhere!"
Then, as headlights approached us, I said, "Look- Signs of civilization!"
Unprompted and unprovoked, Katy piped up from the back seat (directed at the passing car), "We need help!"
Country girl or city girl... you decide!;- P

Technical Difficulties
Back in December (on Christmas Eve, in fact) our home computer died. It was a sudden, whirling, painful death. The death of some files. The death of some old, antiquated technology. But, oh, did we use that thing and boy, will I miss some of the files that we lost (excel address book, anybody?!)! *Sigh*
Thankfully, most of the important files (i.e. PICTURES!) were backed up on a regular basis to a an external hard drive. All we had to do was say good-bye to the old and plug in our already-owned laptop.Whew- almost-painless transition and barely any lost online time. What in the world did we do before our whole lives and whole family histories revolved around computers and technology?!!
Enough of the ramblings, though.... I digress.
The purpose of this post was to point out the fact that because of the death of our old computer and because it was around the holidays (i.e. BUSY time of year) and because of a million other reasons, it took me almost a full month to realize that the header picture (the one with the little girl and clothesline of outfits) to All Things Katy! was missing. Oops- sorry about that! It took a sleepless night to get me to realize- and fix!- that oversight! I believe I fixed that problem and readers should once again be able to view the full blog header.
Thanks for being patient with me! :-)

The Chicken Dance
This afternoon, I was in the kitchen getting lunch together when Katy comes running in. She was dancing and bobbing and flapping her arms.
I asked her what she was doing and she replied, "I'm dancing. I'm doing the Camilla."
Confused, I questioned,"The Camilla?"
Katy matter- of- factly said, "Dancing. You know- Gonzo' s (from the Muppets) chicken (Camilla)."
Oh! That dance- the CHICKEN Dance!
Ted, I blame you. 100%! ;- P

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Pop-Up Cup
Now that Lil' Miss is doing Lunch Bunch at Preschool once a week, we are needing to find more cups that she can take with her that don't seem too "babyish." Enter in the Nuby Pop-Up Cup, featuring "easy pop up action sipper that is easy to use. The snap on cap will keep the sipper clean while on the go."
Here are our thoughts on the Nuby Pop-Up Cup:
-We love the bright green and pink cup that we were given to try out from the Nuby Mommy Blogger program. The pink textured "Gator Grip" does just what it's meant to do- give a better surface for toddler hands to hold onto.
-I love that there is a little tag that attaches to the bottle where you can write your child's name. A perfect feature for preschool, daycare, etc.
-The generous 15 oz. size is just right for my almost-three year old to tote around.
-Lil' Miss did have some difficulties first learning to use the "Pop Up" sipper feature. In fact, she actually managed to pinch her lip in it while trying to close the sipper with her mouth. Eventually, she got the hang of it, but I'd warn new users to be careful.
-Also, parents should know that this product is NOT leak-proof. Make sure that "Pop Up" sipper is closed all the way before tossing it into your purse or you will end up with a puddle in the bottom of your bag (not that I would know from experience, or anything ;-P.
-The Nuby Pop-Up Cup is dishwasher safe (yay!) and BPA free- pluses in my book!
“I did not receive any compensation for this post, although as part of this program I may receive items to sample or review.”

Nuby Mommy Blogger- Wash or Toss™ Toddler Feeding Essentials
Here's what the Nuby website had to say about the product, "Nûby™ Wash or Toss™ feeding range are durable enough to use again and again but affordable enough to throw away. Great for snacks and storage! Ideal for parties, picnics and general use, Nûby™ Wash or Toss™ let’s you decide to wash it or toss it."
Here are my thoughts on the product;
-For a product meant to be disposable, the cups are very sturdy!
-The top to the cup had a nice tight seal and went on with ease.
-Be aware that the lid to the sippy cup is NOT leakproof. Since my child is a little older, it's not too much of a problem but it still nice to know ahead of time.
-Dishwasher safe and BPA free are always winners in my book!

Sentence of the Day- Snow Day
When I informed Lil' Miss that it might snow tonight/tomorrow here in the Carolinas, she excitedly replied, "I'm going to throw up!"
Me, "Oh no! Do you feel sick, Katy?"
Katy, "No. I'm going to throw up! You know, make balls. And build a snowman. And run around. NO coat!"
Ahhhh, so I guess "throw up" translates to "throw snowballs."
I'm fluent in a second language- Katy-speak ;-P

Three Wisemen (and a Lil' Miss)
Great-Grandma Tinkey gave Katy a Precious Moments Christmas Storybook for Christmas. Katy was thumbing through the pages and stopped upon the page depicting the three wisemen. Excited to actually see an Asian character depicted in a children's book (it's rare!), I asked Katy to point to the wiseman that looked most like her. She pointed to the one on the left (the Asian looking one). When I asked Katy to tell me WHY she picked that one, she sighed and replied, "He has a pink crown on and pink is my favorite color!"
Hahahaha- what logic!!

Sentence of the Day- Silly Billy
Katy and I were out shopping, this morning. She was dancing around and being silly as we were entering the store. I asked her who she thought was sillier- Mommy or Daddy (fully expecting her to reply with"Daddy").
She replied, "I'm silly but Pop- Pop is sillier!!"
She nailed that one right on the nose, Dad, don't you think?!!;- P

Muffin Tin Monday- Frosty the Snowman
Capri Sun SuperV (gotta get some extra veg in there, somehow! ;-), Pretzels, Turkey and Cheese Snowman Sandwich rounds with Fruit Leather scarf, Carrot nose and Chocolate Chip eyes and buttons, Blueberries and Carrot Sticks.
Since Lil' Miss switched Preschools back in November and doesn't eat lunch at her new school, we haven't been as regular with our MTM, as of late. However, her new school does offers a program called, "Lunch Bunch" where the kids can stay an extra hour on Mondays, Wednesdays or both to eat lunch. We've decided to give it a go for the month of January.
Because of Katy's love of snowman, I figured a snowman lunch would be the perfect place to start for a wintery meal. Our snowman is missing a hat because I couldn't fit it all in the container and wasn't sure what to make the hat out of... next time, next time... Enjoy!

Nighttime Battles
It's no secret that Katy doesn't like to sleep. However, lately, she's been more vocal about her dislike of nighttime slumber. Our evening conversations go something like this;
Ted, "Okay, Katy- five more minutes until bedtime."
Katy, "No! I don't like to sleep! I don't want to go to bed!"
Me,"Katy, after this show is over, it's time for bed."
Katy, "No, I don't think so."
Ted, "Katy- time for bed."
Katy, "I don't want to go to bed. I'm going to stay up all night. Okay?"
I should also add that Katy gives an Oscar award winning performance with her crocodile tears and perfect little pout. Such a drama queen!

Sentence of the Day- Lukey
Katy loves her little cousin, Lukey!
Every one of Katy's dolls are named "Lukey." (We've decided that "Lukey" is very secure in his masculinity since most of Katy's dolls either wear pink, frills, or both ;0P). New doll, old doll- they all end up being called "Lukey."
This afternoon, Katy was pretending to "feed" one of the Lukies. When I asked her what she was feeding him (just trying to be conversational.... with a two-year old), she matter-of-factly stated,
"Mom! He just likes to eat!"
Hahahahaha... isn't that the truth, cute, chubby Luke?!

Sentence of the Day- Sneakers
While putting on our shoes to go out the other day, I donned my blue tennis shoes and Katy put on her sparkly ones.
She said to me, "Look, Mommy! We're twinsies! We both have sneakers. Only, mine are better- they have sparklies. Yours are boring."
Yep, kid- I guess that is what happens when you grow up. ;-P

Cheers to Another Year! Good-bye 2012, Hello, 2013!
All Things Katy! Is three year's old (plus one day, since I'm a day late in posting- oops :-). Three years of blogging and recording life and the antics of our daughter. Also, almost three years of our beautiful, precocious, silly, intelligent Lil' Miss... life is certainly sweeter in the presence of a child. :-)

Going Crunchy- One Year Later
Remember back at the beginning of 2012 we decided to go crunchy (i.e. use cloth napkins and say good-bye to paper towels and paper plates)? Well, I thought I'd give you an update, one year later.
Originally, I decided that we'd stop buying paper towels and paper napkins so that we could save on buying these products. The fact that this method, was more "green" was an added benefit, but not the end goal. At first, it took a little getting used to not always reaching for the paper towels when Lil' Miss spilled something. After awhile, though, I started noticing how wasteful we were as a family when we did use paper products!
Of course, I do give myself a little slack when we have guests and family over for any length of time. Washing dishes for more than just our family and trying to keep track of everybody's napkins is just not worth the extra hassle. ;-)
However, as the weeks turned into months, turned into a full year, I'm happy to report, it's really not that hard to "give up" paper products. In fact, it's kind of a relief to not always be worrying about running out of such items. We just use, wash and reuse. It's really quite simple and I have to admit, it has not only helped cut costs some, but it has also become a way of life.
And that folks, is as close to a *kept* New Year's Resolution as I get!
