Roll Over, Roll Over!

Posted by Heather at Monday, March 29, 2010 0 comments
Last night, Grandma Tinkey and I had you on your mat doing tummy time and you rolled from your tummy onto your back!!! You surprised even yourself when you rolled over because when you were looking up at us you gave us that surprised, "I-am-not-sure-how-I did-this" look. According to the baby book, you aren't supposed to do this until around fifteen weeks and you are only five and a half weeks old! We've got one smart (and active!) cookie on our hands!

Headin' to Florida...!

Posted by Heather at Thursday, March 25, 2010 0 comments
" Where is Katy? There she is (Behind all that baby gear!!)!"

Katy, our bags are packed and we are ready to go... we are heading to Florida for a week of fun in the sun with family and friends! Grandma Tinkey is flying up to Charlotte and you and I are picking her up from the airport to drive down to Florida together. Daddy will be joining us next weekend at which time you will be baptized by Pop-Pop Tinkey on Easter Sunday. So, that means that we are out of pocket for the week and won't be posting much to the blog in the meantime. We will have lots to report on the other end, I am sure!

Birth Announcement

Posted by Heather at Thursday, March 25, 2010 0 comments
Daddy worked very hard designing your birth announcements, Katy, and here it is! We mailed 140 postcards to friends and family across the world, one month after your birth.

Ted and Heather Jones are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kathryn "Katy" Grace Jones, born on February 18, 2010.
With ten little toes and a cute little face, we are proud to introduce Kathryn Grace.

At 10:28 PM she came into the earth, as Katy had a healthy birth.

Weighing 11 ounces and 6 pounds, her ever-present cuteness knows no bounds.

20 inches is how long she measures, making her our greatest little treasure.

So say a prayer and ... raise a glass, for this is her first greeting, and far from the last!

Park Place

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, March 24, 2010 0 comments
As close as you are going to get to the playground (for now) until you get a little older :-)

Today, we went to Dorton Park, to meet Daddy for lunch, Katy. It was a beautiful 72 degrees outside- sunny, warm, blue skies and we wanted to take advantage of the balmy weather (Plus, Daddy likes to see you midday!).

Mommy's Little Leash

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, March 24, 2010 0 comments
Last night, I met our friend, Necole Baty, for coffee at Rocky River Coffee in Harrisburg while Daddy stayed home with baby. This is the first time that I went out by myself for more than a quick 20 minute trip to the store. Necole and I had a nice chat over some much-needed coffee (what new parent DOESN'T need caffeine??!!) and it was nice to get out of the house by myself.

Katy, I was gone a total of two hours, door-to-door. You had a nice, long feeding right before I left. When I drove up to the house after meeting with Necole, every light in the house was on and I knew that things had not gone well for Daddy while I was out. I walked into the nursery and Daddy was looking more than a little worn. He said that you did NOT want the bottle of milk that I had pumped earlier in the day and that you were one UNHAPPY camper! You were doing your little quivering lip "Billy Goat" cry that is so sad and pathetic (only now you do it with big crocodile tears since your tear ducts have formed). It took us both a very long time to get you calmed down, diapered, fed and in bed... *sigh*... I think you just wanted your Mommy and you didn't like the "disruption" to your nighttime routine.

On a side note, you DID sleep for five consecutive hours, again. HOWEVER, this time it was from 10PM-3AM.

You are getting bigger everyday, Katy! Just look at the snowsuit Grandma and Pop-Pop Tinkey gave you when you were first born. At first, you were swimming in it and now it fits just right!

Sleeping Like a Baby....

Katy, last night you went from midnight to five AM in the morning without waking up for a feeding!! That means that Daddy and I got five glorious, wonderful, uninterrupted, consecutive hours of sleep! Amazing!

Kinetic Kids

Posted by Heather at Sunday, March 21, 2010 0 comments
We parked in the Kinetic Kids parking lot for the first time, today!
Friends Daniel and Megan Charlton help us enter you into the Kinetic Kids system and check you into the nursery for the first time.

Today we went to church and it was the first time we checked you into Kinetic Kids, Katy (aka, the church nursery). We went to the early service and ended up arriving at church BEFORE we would normally arrive- not just running in the door as the first song is starting! According to the helpers in the nursery, you slept through the whole service only waking once to be rocked and held. Of course, all of our church friends wanted to meet you and you soaked in all the attention by sleeping soundly. What a good girl!

DiGiorno Pizza Party

Micah and Katy snoozing through the party.

Our friends, Andy and Gina Cocking won a pizza party from DiGiorno and they were gracious enough to invite us over for food, fun and fellowship. We had a great time with friends and you were really good the whole time, Katy (we think you are going to grow up to be quite the social butterfly- always wanting to be the center of attention, always wanting to be in the thick of things). At the party you met Micah, Andy and Gina's three month old son, and we know the two of you will have lots of fun together in the future.

One Month Well Baby Doctor's Visit

Posted by Heather at Friday, March 19, 2010 0 comments
First Band-Aid on left leg

Today was your one month well baby doctor's visit with Dr. Greenlee at Suburban Pediatrics. You weigh 9 pounds 4 ounce and measure 22 inches long. This means that you are in the 50th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height. You are getting so big, so quickly!! I was quite surprised by the height percentile- it's not like either side of the family has much height on it!

The doctor said you are healthy and developing right on track. She also assured me that having you sleep in your "Happy Chair" at night is okay and won't scar you for life (you just don't like your crib!). You received the second of your Hepatitis B shot and you took it like a trooper.

Take Your Daughter to Work Day

Posted by Heather at Thursday, March 18, 2010 0 comments

Helping Daddy Work...

While I had a doctor's appointment, today, I dropped you off at Daddy's work, Motorsports Authentics. You were the hit of the office!! Lots of people came by to meet you and you were wide-eyed and cooing. After so much excitement, though, you dozed off in Daddy's arms toward at the end.

Tiffanie Smith, the birthday girl!

Katy with Mommy and Tiffanie

Today, we went to Shoe Show to wish my friend, Tiffanie Smith, Happy Birthday (one day early!). Tiffanie was pleasantly surprised to see us and you did very well for your first big "outing." You were a hit (everybody kept coming over to see you!) and you slept through most of the birthday singing, "oohing" and "aahing." You do seem to love a crowd!

Believer

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, March 16, 2010 0 comments
Sleeping like a baby...

Back when we were just pregnant and baby-less, I was very resistant to the whole baby carrier concept. Those things are HEAVY and I'm short and it just seemed like such a HASSLE to lug it from car, to house, to stroller, etc., etc.... Well, today, I just became a believer and now I know why every new parent seems to love these things! While Katy was sleeping (in her carrier seat), I was able to take her in and out of the car to Chick-Fil-A (free chicken biscuits, today!), the mall, for a walk and to the bank- all without disturbing baby AND I was able to get things done and not feel cooped up in the house! Amazing...! BTW, the carrier is still HEAVY ... :-/

When Grandma and Grandpa Jones last came to visit, they brought a whole bunch of pictures of your Daddy when he was a baby and a little boy. Now I know EXACTLY where you get some of your facial expressions...!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Ted and I want to say thank you to all the friends and family members who helped to provide meals for us during these first few weeks at home with Katy. I really don't know what we would have done without them! It was so nice to be able to focus on becoming a family of three and not have to worry about the proverbial question, "What's for Dinner?" We felt so very loved and cared for by the simple act of sharing food- thank you!

Daddy Daughter Look-Alike

Notice a family resemblance when it comes to the hair?
Katy, your hair may stick straight up like most Asian babies, but I think you have more of your Daddy in you than meets the eye... ;-P

"Oh, where is my hair brush?"

Posted by Heather at Friday, March 12, 2010 1 comments
"I love my hair brush!"

You were born with a full head of hair, Katy!** So much so, that Grandma Tinkey went out and bought you a Cookie Monster comb and brush set. Every morning, when I get you ready for the day, I brush your hair. You seem to really like this- you put your head back and close your eyes and sometimes I can even elicit a smile from you. Well, last night and today you were extra fussy and rocking, shushing, nursing or diaper changing didn't seemed to help. In an effort to calm you, I pulled out the "Magic Hair Brush", combed your hair and you were OUT! Ahh, I love that brush... :-)
**Side note; You were born with a full head of jet black hair. However, it is slowly turning a lighter, finer brownish color.

Hair-Raising Experience

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, March 10, 2010 0 comments
Bad hair day?

"Mommy thinks it's funny when my hair sticks up!"

Before you were born, Katy, there were two things that I had hoped that you would inherit- A) Asian hair that sticks straight up and B) Daddy's dimple. Sadly, there is no sign of a dimple, yet, but your hair does stick straight up and it's so cute it makes me smile!

Diapers, diapers everywhere...

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, March 10, 2010 0 comments
Back when we were just pregnant and baby-less, everybody told us not to buy newborn diapers. They said, "The baby will grow so quickly that you won't need them- waste of money!" So, in an effort to ease the transition to "mommy-hood" and using my super couponing ways, I stocked up on diapers in sizes everything BUT newborn! Guess what? We ended up needing to BUY newborn diapers!! I even had to send my father-in-law out to get some newborn diapers because we were running low! Katy, do you go through the diapers! I estimate that in the first two weeks, we went through about approximately 200 newborn diapers! We've since graduated to size one diapers (granted, they are tad big but you're growing!) and we've already gone through about forty of those in three days. Now I know what everybody meant when they said that children (and diapers!) are expensive!

Aunt Julie Comes to Visit

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, March 09, 2010 0 comments
Today, Aunt Julie came to visit and help out for the afternoon. She stayed with you while I went and got my hair cut. So, I guess you could say that Aunt Julie is your first "babysitter." According to Aunt Julie, you were a good girl while I was out, but every once in awhile you'd make a sound to make sure somebody was close by and paying attention to you. Julie was also kind enough to run to the grocery store for us to pick up some groceries- thanks, Julie, for taking the time to visit with us and help us out!

Also, while Julie was visiting, you lifted your head and turned your head from side to side while on your tummy, for the first time. You've done this before on your back but never while on your stomach! Maybe that Tummy Time is working, after all...

Mall Rat

Posted by Heather at Monday, March 08, 2010 0 comments
"Oh, the places you'll go..."

Today, we went to the mall- your first shopping experience! ;-P I had to make a return and run some errands so we decided to test the waters and see how you would do- you snoozed through the whole event! I've been finding it difficult to time getting out of the house with your nursing schedule being so erratic, but today, you were in good spirits and it made me feel good that we were able to accomplish something AND get out of the house. I managed to pack up the car and get the car seat attached to the stroller with relative ease. We were even able to go outside for a walk downtown Concord to enjoy the beautiful spring weather we are currently experiencing.

Daddy Daughter time after the bath.

"Not so sure about bath time..."

Today, you received your first bath, Katy. Since you didn't much care for the bath that you received in the hospital shortly after you were born, we expected you to cry and complain. However, today, you took the whole bath experience in stride. I wouldn't say you ENJOYED it, but you didn't cry or whimper and we got you all squeaky clean using the froggy washcloth from Auntie Hope and Uncle Eric. The whole event took less than 20 minutes (it seemed to take longer to set everything up- water temperature, towel, washcloth, soap, brush, etc.) than it did to actually bathe you! Of course, we HAD to take some pictures of the experience... :-)
