Made for Mermaids Bonny Leggings, & Made for Mermaids Paige Piko Top

Good-bye, July! Hello August! It's hard to believe, but Missy only has one more month of summer lovin' and then it's BACK TO SCHOOL as a big, smart THIRD GRADER!! It's crazy how fast this summer flew by!

Missy's had a growth spurt, this summer- she now wears the same size shoe as I do...!!! So, I needed to make some fun, durable play clothes for school. The Made for Mermaids Bonny Leggings, paired with the Made for Mermaids Paige Piko Top, make the perfect everyday school outfit!

Made for Mermaids Bonny Leggings, & Made for Mermaids Paige Piko Top

For a point of reference, both garments are a size ten. The Made for Mermaids Bonny Leggings are shorties length sewn out of cotton lycra from one of my favorite online fabric shops, Purpleseamstress Fabrics. The Made for Mermaids Paige Piko Top is the curved hem tunic length, half sleeve, out of mystery knit bought at Hancock Fabrics (eons, ago). Instead of knit binding on the Paige Piko Top, I used 1/2" picot elastic from Pretty Posh Prints.

Both patterns are easy to sew, comfy to wear and they are in regular rotation on my sewing machine. Plus, did I mention that BOTH patterns are FREE?!?! Yay!!

Now, to tackle that darn school supply list....!! ;-P

Love Notions Summer Lace Tour

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

Hello and welcome to my stop on the Love Notions Summer Lace Tour!

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

Summer is the PERFECT time to add a little lace to your me-made wardrobe! Lace is light, airy and adds a touch of femininity. I love using lace as an accent, overlay or trim!

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

I chose to sew up the Love Notions Rockford Raglan. For a point of reference, I sewed up a size Small, standard bust (this pattern also includes pattern PIECES for full bust), tunic length, 3/4 sleeve Love Notions Rockford Raglan. I did NOT adjust for my height (5'-0") because I wanted to wear it as a fun, casual tunic. I used rayon spandex for the body of the  Love Notions Rockford Raglan and PRINTED lace cotton lycra for the sleeves. I also added 1 1/4" stretch lace trim to the bottom hem of the tunic. Sew fun!

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

I really like sewing raglan style tops/dresses because they don't have set-in sleeves and I tend to find them faster to sew up. So, as a result, I've sewn up lots and lots of raglan patterns for myself and my daughter throughout the years (including  Love Notions girl's version, the Wrigley Raglan, seen here). What really stood out about the  Love Notions Rockford Raglan is the curve where the sleeves and front/back meet- it's perfectly curved to fit and flatter a woman's silhouette. I LOVE the fit and drape of the Love Notions Rockford Raglan. It's fitted at the bust and drapes nicely everywhere else.

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

The "lacy" sleeves of my Love Notions Rockford Raglan dress up an otherwise casual tunic and would even pass the strictest of dress codes. I could wear this tunic to work, to girl's night out, or a relaxing weekend at home- I love a multi-tasking wardrobe piece! Sew much fun joining the Love Notions Summer Lace Tour!

 Love Notions Rockford Raglan

Now, go ahead and check out the other talented Love Notions Summer Lace Tour stops- lots of fun tips and tricks to show you how to add lace to your favorite Love Notions pattern.

Jalie Patterns- Diane Swimsuit (3893) Review

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, June 12, 2018 1 comments

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Diane Swimsuit (3893)

Last, but not least, introducing Jalie Sewing Patterns- Diane Swimsuit (3893)! Diane Swimsuit (3893) features a keyhole back cut-out, modest one piece bathing suit coverage and an optional sash. And, as is true with all Jalie Sewing Patterns, the Diane Swimsuit (3893) includes sizes toddler 2 up to women's size 22. That's a lot of bang for your buck!

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Diane Swimsuit (3893) FRONT

I sewed up a size "N", no sash, Diane Swimsuit (3893) for my daughter. I did NOT make any modifications and the fit was PERFECTION! Straps stay in place, backside is covered- no tugging and pulling, here! *Side Note- Missy has worn this suit to swim team practice multiple times already and it definitely passes the lap swimming test!*

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Diane Swimsuit (3893)

I cannot wait to make a Diane Swimsuit (3893) for me!

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880) Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880)

Meet Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880), another great pattern from the latest collection of patterns from Jalie Sewing Patterns. This simple Dolman-style top features a flattering V neckline and ingenious inner facing that hides bra straps and keeps wardrobe malfunctions at bay. Perfection!

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880) NECKLINE

I sewed up a size T top without any modifications. Because Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880), does not have any set-in sleeves, sewing this up was a breeze. The simple inner facing creates a clean neckline and eliminates the need for neckbands and/or hemming. The style of this top is slightly loose without being baggy.

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Bobbie, The Magic V Neck (3880) DETAIL

I especially love how the inner facing conveniently hides bra straps and eliminates any wardrobe malfunctions! This top definitely suits my style and is so easy wear!

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Julia Underwear (3886) Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Julia Underwear (3886)

Next up in the latest collect of Jalie Sewing Patterns- The Julia Underwear (3886). This time, I sewed up a set of matching Julia panties and bralette for Missy.

The Julia Underwear (3886) does require the use of foldover elastic (FOE) to finish the edges of the panties and create the straps for the bralette. This can be a bit fiddly but it's totally doable- take it from me (aka, FOE-adverse ;-)! Slow and steady is the name of the game when it comes to sewing with FOE.

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Julia Underwear (3886) BACK

Step-by-step instructions with accompanying illustrated steps make sewing up The Julia Underwear (3886) set clear and simple. Because of Jalie Sewing Patterns wide range of sizes, I was able to use a combination of sizes in order to create the perfect fit for my daughter. As I've found to be true with all Jalie Sewing Patterns, the fit and sizing is perfection!

The Julia Underwear (3886) is a great scrapbuster project and good staple wardrobe pattern.

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Mimosa T-shirt (3890) Review

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Mimosa T-shirt (3890)

When it comes to sewing patterns, I would consider Jalie Sewing Patterns one of the gold standards. All Jalie Sewing Patterns are thoroughly tested and professionally graded. I've sewn LOTS of sewing patterns and trust me, Jalie Sewing Patterns is one of the best! :-)

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Mimosa T-shirt (3890)- Short self-tie sleeves

As part of their latest collection of patterns, Jalie Sewing Patterns just released a new top, the Mimosa T-shirt (#3890). The Mimosa T-shirt (#3890) features three different views- (A) short sleeve, roll-up sleeves with breast pocket, (B) long sleeve with flounce or (C) short self-tie sleeve. As with all all Jalie Sewing Patterns, sizes kids (F) through adult (GG) are included in the Mimosa T-shirt (#3890) PDF Sewing Pattern.

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Mimosa T-shirt (3890)- Curved side hem

I sewed up a size U, view (C) short self-tie sleeve Mimosa T-shirt (#3890). I used rayon spandex for the body of the shirt and cotton lycra for the neckband. Step-by-step instructions with accompanying line drawings make assembling and sewing this pattern a breeze. Plus, the Mimosa T-shirt (#3890) includes LAYERS (*cue the hallelujah chorus!)- that means you just print the size you need- no squiggly lines to match up and less to print. Anybody remember the dizzying array of lines of older Jalie Sewing Patterns...I sure do! Woohoo!

Jalie Sewing Patterns- Mimosa T-shirt (3890)

I love the little details of this pattern. The curved, split side seams and the short self-tie sleeves are such fun, feminine twists on the traditional "T-shirt"! I also love the fact that I can easily make Mommy and Me matching sets from just one pattern! The Mimosa T-shirt (#3890) is sure to be a wardrobe staple!

Phee Swim Week 2018- Featuring patterns from Cole's Corner and Creations and Treasurie

Posted by Heather at Wednesday, May 16, 2018 0 comments

Summertime, here we come!! Missy is all set to hit the pool in her new swimwear using Phee Fabrics Heathered Hot Pink Circular Knit and Leopard Print nylon spandex!

The fabrics from Phee Fabrics were PERFECT for sewing up a Cole's Corner and Creations Bow-a-licious bathing suit and Treasurie Kimono (cover-up). I love the fun bow feature of the Cole's Corner and Creations Bow-a-licious bathing suit! Now, technically, the Treasurie Kimono is meant for wovens but it translated perfectly using the Phee Fabrics Leopard Print nylon spandex (no mods, or, sizing up is necessary).

The Phee Fabrics Heathered Hot Pink Circular Knit and Leopard Print nylon spandex fabrics were easy to work with and both are antimicrobial and moisture-wicking (aka- exactly what you need in swimwear). The fabrics are soft and cool to the touch. The Phee Fabrics Heathered Hot Pink Circular Knit and Leopard Print nylon spandex wash up perfectly, as well! We've already worn- and washed- this suit and cover-up a couple times and they STILL look just as bright and vibrant as the day we took these pictures!

Sponsored Post- Sly Fox Fabrics- Twilight's Kiss in PIum

Posted by Heather at Tuesday, April 24, 2018 0 comments

I love a pretty floral french terry fabric and the "Twilight's Kiss in Plum" from Sly Fox Fabrics is GORGEOUS!! It's soft to the touch, easy to work with and so cozy!

When I first saw this fabric, I just *knew* that it needed to become a Love Notions Boyfriend Cardigan. For a point of reference, this is a size small, long sleeve, shawl collar, side vent Love Notions Boyfriend Cardigan (with modifications for my 5'-0" height ;).

The "Twilight's Kiss in Plum" from Sly Fox Fabrics is so pretty in person! I didn't have any trouble washing it up and I had zero issues with color bleeding (thanks for the included color catcher, Sly Fox Fabrics!). The french terry side of the fabric is soft- this is a baby french terry, by the way- and there were no pulls and the fabric was tightly woven. I was really impressed with the quality of the fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics. It was nice and thick with even repeats.

Plus, did you know that  Sly Fox Fabrics has a monthly drawing to win a serger? Hop on over to the Sly Fox Fabrics website for more details. Sew much fun sewing up this gorgeous "Twilight's Kiss in Plum" from Sly Fox Fabrics!

Sewing Pattern Testing- Patterns for Pirates- Boho Babydoll pattern

Posted by Heather at Friday, April 06, 2018 0 comments

Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress

Hello, Readers! Today, I'm here to share a recent sewing pattern test, the Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress. This is a fun dress to sew AND wear!

First, let's talk about the Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress pattern. This pattern is written for sizes 3m-14y. It includes multiple sleeve lengths and hemlines. The pattern pieces are layered and trimless (save a tree by printing only the pages you need/want- yay!). Step-by-step pictures accompany written instructions. Size chart, finished measurements and fabric requirements are all included in the pattern.

Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress

I sewed up a size 10w/8l mash, high/low, maxi-length, ruffle sleeves Boho Babydoll Dress. Aqua cotton lycra bodice fabric is from the Purpleseamstress Fabrics. Tropical print skirt fabric is a very thin jersey knit from a Sincerely Rylee mystery box. *Note* When doing the maxi version, I found it best to use a thinner knit material for the skirt because it can weigh down the bodice. The Boho Babydoll Dress went through several iterations throughout the testing process (that's what testing is all about!), but I think the ladies behind Patterns for Pirates got it JUST right in the end. :-) (Note, my pictures may differ slightly from the final pattern because of this).

The curved empire waist on the Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress is flattering on my daughter and she LOOOVES the maxi-length! The ruffled sleeves are a fun feature and they aren't so long that they interfere with regular eight-year-old play ;-P.

Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress

So, what are you waiting for? Go out there and grab your copy of the Patterns for Pirates Boho Babydoll Dress! Plus, there's even a matching Ladies version...! #mommyandme ;-)

P.S. I just had to add the following picture (tester version)- action shot! ;-P
