Lost in Translation

Posted by Heather at Sunday, March 30, 2014 0 comments
The newest Muppet movie, Muppets Most Wanted, came out, last week. Of course, we saw it opening weekend!

Katy has been slightly *obsessed* with singing and listening to all of the songs from the movie. One of the songs sung in the movie is, "Working In A Coal Mine."

Yesterday, we caught her to singing and dancing along to the YouTube videos, at the top of her lungs, "Working in the COLD MUD, Goin' down, down, down... Whoop! About to slip down..." She couldn't be convinced that the lyrics were "Coal Mine" and not "Cold Mud."

Another funny incident of late; Katy has a stuffed animal that plays lullabies when you press it's belly. His name is, "Gumble." Anyway, one of the songs that he sings is, "Pachelbel's Canon in D." Otherwise known as, the "Wedding Song." As we were listening to this song, Katy asked me, "Mommy, why did you have 'greensmaids' at your wedding?" Confused, I asked her to clarify. She responded, "You know- when you got married to Daddy- there were fancy girls standing next to you in green dresses- Greensmaids."

Ooooh! "Greensmaids," "Bridesmaids," Same difference!

Sentence of the Day- Moe Manners

Posted by Heather at Friday, March 28, 2014 0 comments
Occasionally, if Lil' Miss has been good at school, we'll go on a Mommy/Katy lunch date on Fridays. She gets to pick the place and we get to talk and have fun.

Today, after a shortened day at Preschool (make-up day for snow), Katy decided we should dine at Moe's Southwest Grill. That girl can put away some chips and salsa! We were in line, waiting to order, when the woman in front of us placed her order.

After the woman said, ".....no rice...," Katy tugged on my jacket and loudly exclaimed, "Mommy! That lady didn't use her say, 'Please.'! She forgot her manners!!"

The woman in question just burst out laughing and said, "Yes, I did forget my manners!" Then, to the woman behind the counter, she said, "No rice, PLEASE...!"

Sewing Pattern Testing- Amelie Clothing- The Vintage Dress

Here's a beautiful dress sewn using another wonderful PDF pattern by the talented Amelie Clothing. This one is call the Vintage Dress. It's a simple a-line profile with flutter sleeves. It has two options for the neckline- buttons, or folded.

I chose to do the folded neckline. For this dress, I chose to use the busier, patterned material as the accent. I love how it "peaks out" from sleeves, bottom hem and neckline.

This dress is a simple sew and I believe that even a beginner could manage it as it has the option to not require any buttons, zippers, etc. The written tutorial and accompanying pictures in the pattern are clear and easy to follow. The dress profile is accommodating to a variety of sizes and the bottom double ruffle makes the dress girly without being over-the-top.

The Vintage Dress PDF sewing pattern comes in sizes 3T-8. The dress that I sewed for Lil' Miss was a 4T. Feel free to head on over here to purchase your very own copy of the Vintage Dress.

Thank you, Susan, for another wonderful pattern and the opportunity to test this pattern for you!

***Disclosure: "I received a free pattern in order to pattern test for Amelie Clothing. The opinions expressed here are my own."***

Bento Box- M-I-C-K-E-Y

Cinnamon Kettle Corn mixed with Craisins, Saltines ("Saltinias" as Katy refers to them), Mickey Mouse Cheese slices and Strawberries.

Three Cheers for Mickey! Today's lunch ended up being consumed at home. Lil' Miss wasn't feeling well, last week, so she didn't end up going to Lunch Bunch. Oh well! She enjoyed it, nonetheless.

Rule of Fours

Posted by Heather at Thursday, March 06, 2014 0 comments
Back when Katy was little (well, younger than she is, now ;-), we started this little rule where she had to at least eat as many bites/do as many chores/etc. as whatever her current age was. For example, when we were pleading with her to eat her veggies at dinner, we'd tell her, "Please eat three more bites of your carrots and then you may be excused."

Well, now that she's four, the antes been upped. Instead of three bites to be excused, it's four!

So, the other  night we were eating dinner and Lil' Miss didn't want to eat her spinach. I told her that she needed to eat four more bites of spinach and then she could be done. She ate her remaining spinach in two bites.

Then, coming to the end of her portion of veggies, she exclaimed, "Hey! I only ate two bites! I need two more bites-ful of spinach!"

I don't know if I should be proud that she did some math, smirk at the fact that she was actually asking more for more vegetables, or just laugh at the whole situation. Obligingly, though, I just heaped some more spinach onto her plate.

Hee, hee... whatever works!

Four Year Old Well Visit

Posted by Heather at Thursday, March 06, 2014 0 comments
Katy had her four year old well visit, this past Tuesday. Instead of seeing Dr. Guerriero, like we normally do, Katy requested to see Dr. Houston (another doctor in the practice). We had visited with Dr. Houston for a sick visit back in December, and Katy seemed to really respond to her. So, even though I like Dr. G., it's Katy's doctor and I'll take her to see whomever she is comfortable with.

Katy's current information is as follows:

Height- 40 inches (55%)
Weight- 36.5 pounds (62%)
BMI- 16.04 kg/m2 (the BMI thing was new for us- she've never calculated that, before)

Everything was developmentally on target. There were no real concerns. Katy did take a hearing and eye test and everything was normal there. She did miss hearing one of the sounds, but when the nurse retested her, she caught it.

Katy was really, really good throughout the appointment... until the end when the dreaded shots came around. She got three boosters, this appointment. I choose to postpone the MMR booster till her five year old appointment. This time, she got the Chicken Pox, Polio and Tetanus boosters.

Other than the shots, everything went smoothly and there was nothing of note. Healthy, just the way we like it! :-)
